AlliedBarton to host seminar on workplace violence: layoffs, terminations and active shooter situations
AlliedBarton Security Services, www.alliedbarton.com, the industry’s premier provider of highly trained security personnel, will host a free seminar on Workplace Violence: Layoffs, Terminations and Active Shooter Situations, on October 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Christian Brothers High School Auditorium, 5900 Walnut Grove Rd. in Memphis.
Bruce Blythe, an internationally-acclaimed crisis management expert, will speak about unique considerations during layoffs and terminations when hostility or violence becomes a concern.
“In any circumstance, firing people is at best highly undesirable,” said Blythe. “Beyond the compassion for the well-being of the individual, we all have the same concerns when it comes to disrupting a person’s livelihood. People who seemed fine in normal times can become hostile, threatening, and even violent when they learn they are losing their jobs.”
Blythe is the owner and chairman of three companies that provide employers with a continuum of crisis preparedness, response and recovery services (Crisis Management International, Crisis Care Network, and Behavioral Medical Interventions). He is the author of Blindsided: A Manager’s Guide to Crisis Leadership (2nd edition, 2014). He is a former military police officer in the United States Marine Corps, a consultant to the FBI on workplace violence and terrorism, as well as a certified clinical psychologist. He's appeared repeatedly on NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s 20/20, CBS’ 48 Hours, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, NPR and many more.
