Cloud Standards Customer Council to host Cloud Privacy Summit in March

The Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC) has announced that registration for its CSCC Cloud Privacy Summit is now open. The Summit will be held March 26 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, VA.

“With increasing dependency on information systems and advances in cloud, mobile and social computing, maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of citizens' personally identifiable information is a growing challenge,” said Melvin Greer, Senior Fellow and Chief Strategist, Lockheed Martin and Summit speaker. He continued, “The CSCC Cloud Privacy Summit brings thought leaders with business, technical and legal acumen together to examine the difference between security and privacy, the legal framework supporting the concept of privacy and the impact of privacy on cloud adoption.”

The council’s organizers have convened experts and business leaders in cloud adoption who will deliver guidance and practical recommendations on the issues and challenges posed by cloud privacy. The program is designed to facilitate information exchange on: the difference between privacy and security; the impact of privacy regulations on businesses; real-life perspectives and best practices to manage cloud privacy; and how cloud customers can mitigate risks associated with privacy.

The agenda for the CSCC Cloud Privacy Summit includes presentations from a deep bench of accomplished speakers:

  • Melvin Greer, Senior Fellow, Chief Strategist at Lockheed Martin and award-winning author of the bestselling book, 21st Century Leadership. A recognized expert in cloud computing and customer experience, he is the vice-chair of the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC), Cloud Computing Working Group and an Advisory Council member of the Cloud Security Alliance.
  • Gerald Spada, SVP and Chief Privacy Officer, State Street Corporation.
  • Jason Baron, from the law firm of Drinker, Biddle & Reath LLP is an internationally recognized speaker and author on the preservation of electronic documents. Baron had previously served as the first appointed Director of Litigation for the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration. In 2011, he received the prestigious Emmett Leahy Award for outstanding contributions to the records and information management profession.
  • Harley Geiger, Advocacy Director & Senior Counsel, Center for Democracy and Technology works on issues related to civil liberties and government surveillance, computer crime, and cybersecurity. He was the lead staffer for technology and Internet issues, and was instrumental in helping develop the Internet freedom agenda of U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren of California.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their thoughts with cloud computing vendors on the current and future state of cloud privacy along with their plans to mitigate customers’ privacy risks.

The Summit will wrap up with an overview of the Council’s efforts to advance cloud standards along with an open discussion based on topics attendees raise during the event. Registration for the Summit costs US $99.

The Summit is co-located with the Object Management Group Technical Meeting, which runs from March 23-27.

The Cloud Standards Customer Council is an OMG end-user advocacy group dedicated to accelerating the cloud’s successful adoption and drilling down into the standards, security and interoperability issues surrounding the transition to the cloud. While not a standards organization, CSCC complements existing cloud standards efforts by establishing a core set of client-driven requirements that ensure cloud users will have the same freedom of choice, flexibility and openness they have with traditional IT environments. CSCC is open to all end-user organizations. For more information, visit http://www.cloud-council.org.
