Secret Service to train its employees in financial and retirement planning

Three Secret Service
agents with the president

The U.S. Secret Service has issued a Request for Quote (RFQ) to firms that can provide financial planning and retirement planning seminars to Secret Service employees at the agency’s training center in Laurel, MD, and in Washington, DC.

The Secret Service intends to issue one Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for one selected vendor, which would receive a one-year base contract for fiscal year 2013, plus four one-year options for the next four fiscal years, but the agency reserves the right to award more than one contract, or none at all.

The selected vendor will be asked to provide up to six retirement planning courses during each fiscal year which would focus on various government retirement systems; Social Security; legal, estate planning, wills, health directives, financial planning, second careers, resume writing, interview skills and other retirement-related topics. Up to 30 individuals will be trained in each class, says a statement of work issued by the Secret Service on Feb. 8.

The selected vendor would also be expected to offer up to two financial planning classes per fiscal year, which would focus on creating a financial plan, insurance, an overview of the employee’s finances, savings and investments. Each such training class would have up to 30 students. These classes are especially intended to be part of the Secret Service’s “New Employee Orientation Program,” says the notice.

Potential vendors have until Feb. 19 to ask questions about the RFQ, and until Feb. 28 to submit their formal proposal. Further information is available from Ericka Landry, a contracting specialist, at [email protected].
