DHS to display on Jan. 9 federal cyber research ready to be ‘transitioned’ to the marketplace

The Science and Technology Directorate at DHS is planning a one-day “Transition to Practice (TTP) Technology Demonstration” conference in the Washington, DC, area on Jan. 9, 2013.

At this technology day, S&T’s cyber security division will show off mature federally-funded cyber security research -- with a focus on research undertaken by the Department of Energy’s national labs -- that could be transitioned into commercial products that can be made available to the homeland security field.

“TTP [transition to practice] accomplishes its mission by developing partnerships and serving as a connection point between the federal research community, network operators (CIO/CISO), and private industry,” says a solicitation for hotel space issued by the DHS office of the chief procurement officer.

The upcoming conference, which will take place on Jan. 9 at a venue to be named, will be the first display of such cyber research.

“Attendees will also assist the larger process by providing feedback to improve technologies,” the solicitation continues. “Pilot partners will assist the process by demonstrating the viability of technologies for private sector partners who will take these technologies to market.”
