PathSensors unveils new high-speed mail screening solution for anthrax, biologicals

BALTIMORE Dec. 15, 2016 Baltimore bio tech firm, PathSensors, Inc., announced today the launch of its new Bioflash MailGuardtm mail security screening solution. The Bioflash MailGuardtm system provides a fast, highly accurate, easy to use and low cost threat detection solution for government and commercial mail room operations that need to screen mail and packages for potential threats such as anthrax. The system is now in use at a major commercial mail room screening facility thanks to PathSensor’s initial launch customer, a global document management company.

“Government agencies, document management companies, outsourced mail room screening operators and commercial mail room managers have all told us that they need a turn key bio threat detection solution that is highly accurate with virtually no false alarms; fast to detect threats and able to handle high volumes of mail and packages; easy to use, and, above all, with a much lower cost of ownership than alternative approaches,” commented Ted Olsen, CEO, PathSensors, Inc. “The Bioflash MailGuardtm is the first and only solution to meet all these requirements and the results – as demonstrated by a successful field launch earlier this year with a major commercial mail room operation – show that the Bioflash MailGuardtm is a true breakthrough technology.”

The BioFlash MailGuardtm System consists of an integrated biological testing unit, down flow booth, mail jogger, and compact medical refrigerator and requires standard 110v power to operate. The biological testing unit has the ability to connect to the Internet via an optional tethered laptop computer, which permits remote system diagnostics and secondary testing confirmation as needed. It can detect over 25 biological threats in concentrations as low as 100 CFU in less than five minutes. The Bioflash MailGuardtm uses PathSensor’s CANARY® technology, which is currently deployed by Defense and Homeland Security customers, and which can be Integrated with x-ray, chemical and other threat detection technologies.

LDS introduces innovative drone-operated explosive detection system

TEL AVIV, Israel Nov. 15, 2016 Following extensive testing in the laboratory and in the field, Laser Detect System (LDS) Ltd. is unveiling SpectroDrone – the world’s first drone-based explosive detection sensor.

Utilizing LDS’ laser-based explosive detection system, SpectroDrone detects explosives and other hazardous materials, in gas, liquid, powder or bulk form, at a distance of several meters from the threat. SpectroDrone can perform such missions over an operational radius of up to 3 Km. In addition to the detection of dangerous materials, SpectroDrone can remotely analyze different materials in real time, fulfilling essential role in mining and other industrial operations.

LDS is unveiling the SpectroDrone this week at Israel’s HLS & Cyber Expo in Tel Aviv (15/16 November 2016). At the exhibition, SpectroDrone is displayed integrated on the Airobotics Optimus drone – a high capacity multi-mission multi-rotor drone.

In this new configuration SpectroDrone automatically detects and analyzes explosives materials and IEDs, hazardous compounds, and narcotics from a distance, in addition to its surveillance role, thus enhancing situational understanding and real-time response to emergency situations. The SpectroDrone payload can also be mounted on ground robots and in fixed operation such as LDS’ SPHERE vehicle inspection systems.

“We are very excited to unveil this innovative solution for security and anti-terror applications at Israel’s HLS & Cyber,“ said Eli Venezia, LDS founder, and President, “We are also encouraged by the great promise our technology offers for commercial applications.”

“When running security, emergency or surveillance missions in an industrial environment, the ability to dynamically and swiftly replace payloads, as well as introduce new innovative ones, is a real step forward,” says Ran Krauss, CEO, and Co-Founder of Airbotics. “The next generation of security lies in introducing unique technological capabilities, which I believe LDS and Airbotics bring jointly to market.”

LDS Laser-Based Explosive Detection Technology:

SpectroDrone implements LDS’ patented, laser-based detection technology. The payload comprises multiple electro-optical assemblies comprising a laser source emitting several wavelengths, laser range finder and high-resolution camera - all integrated with state of the art spectrometers which that operates LDS’s software package and proprietary algorithms.

This algorithm enables to achieve the sensitivity required for remote operation, increasing the probability of accurate detection while reducing false negative and false positive detection rates, bringing detection performance level to that of laboratory equipment.

Passport Systems develops first-ever handheld networked radiation detector

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 31, 2016 Passport Systems Inc. has produced the first of its kind handheld, networked radiation detector. The SmartShield™ Networked Radiation Detection System will advance security at large scale venues in the United States, as well as around the world, and will better protect populations and property from CBRNe threats.

The SmartShield system provides seamless integration of individual detectors into a coordinated network, while its advanced algorithms use the information provided by the network to perform improved radiation detection, localization, identification, and continuous mapping of the background area.

Domestically, the SmartShield technology has been used to beef up security at the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament in Houston, at the Boston Marathon, and other crowd gathering events, such as NASCAR races in New Hampshire. Internationally, it is being marketed for use at celebrations, soccer matches, concerts, as well as airports, and ports.

"The CBRNe Convergence show is a rare opportunity to talk with domestic local, state and federal security officials, law enforcement authorities from around the world and global private sector security interests about how Passport Systems' innovative radiation detection technology can improve security," said William McLendon, Passport's COO, who is showcasing the technology at Booth 47 in the exhibition hall during CBRNe Convergence 2016 in San Diego from October 31 to November 2.

"Our technology is the best available at detecting and responding to threats caused by Dirty Bombs and other nuclear and radiative devices," said Mr. McLendon, who is available to do media interviews at CBRNe Convergence 2016. "This technology is the counter balance to the growing sophistication of terrorist groups seeking to do harm. The challenge now is to get this technology into the hands of law enforcement, companies, countries who need it."

SmartShield is comprised of small gamma-radiation detectors that collect radiation data and transmit the information wirelessly through smartphones, forming a network that allows security forces to simultaneously respond to any threats. While on routine patrols, security and law enforcement officers collect background radiation data. When gamma radiation is detected, an alert and GPS coordinates are sent throughout the network, to a central command station, and to responding law enforcement personnel.

Passport Systems Inc., which is based in N. Billerica, MA, is also producing a game-changing cargo scanner that will effectively and efficiently help protect property and populations from nuclear terrorists and CBRNe threats.

Passport's technology has received significant media coverage in Massachusetts:
