Leonardo to provide secure communications network for upcoming G7 summit

Rome April 10, 2017 Leonardo has provided an advanced communications network for the G7 summit in Taormina, allowing for the effective coordination of security operations. Security forces protecting the international summit, which will see heads of state and other government officials convene in the town of Taormina, Sicily on May 26-27, will be able to use the equipment to rapidly intervene during any crisis, ensuring the summit, the local population and the surrounding area receive the highest level of protection.

The Leonardo network, which was delivered within an extremely tight timescale, is based on TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) technology, the international gold standard for mission-critical communications. It covers the towns of Taormina, Catania and Messina, Airports in Sigonella (Siracusa) and Fontanarossa (Catania) and all summit locations.

Police forces will be able to rely on the system for encrypted digital communications and extensive radio coverage throughout the area, including over coastal water and airspace. Around 2,000 latestgeneration radio terminals have been provided and multimedia operator workstations have been installed in the inter-force control room, allowing for integrated information management and the coordination of local resources. In the G7 operations room, security forces will be able to view images captured by a large-scale surveillance system, installed and operated by Leonardo, that spans Sicily. This network comprises around 1,000 sensors, including cameras and automatic licence plate readers. At the summit, the company has also invested to provide a sophisticated mobile operations room that uses a TETRA communications network integrated with dedicated LTE broadband technology to transmit video on-the-move.

Leonardo’s solutions, designed and built to fulfil the objectives and requirements laid down by G7 organisers, are critical to the safety of the summit. The company demonstrated an open and flexible approach in extending its offer to cover video surveillance equipment specifically tailored to the event, aiming to maximise the effectiveness of activities already carried out, as reported recently by the Italian press. Leonardo’s response saw preliminary work carried out, meeting strict deadlines and complying with administrative procedures, and the company was officially recognised for its concerted efforts by the Italian Government.

A leader in mission-critical communications, Leonardo has designed and implemented communications and security systems in over 50 countries to protect cities, critical infrastructure and ransport networks and to respond to emergencies. The company also has a track record in the successful protection of high-profile international events such as inter-governmental forums, Olympic Games and World’s Fairs

Brown

NEW YORK April 10, 2017 Kroll (“the Company”), a global leader in risk mitigation, investigations, compliance, cyber resilience, security, and incident response solutions, today announced the appointment of David Brown as a Managing Director in Kroll’s Investigations and Disputes practice. The former Chief of the Dallas Police Department (“DPD”), Brown rose through the ranks over the course of a distinguished 33-year career, and today is a nationally recognized expert on promoting law and order and reducing violent crime, particularly through the use of highly effective community-based methods. Brown is also well known for his crisis management expertise. Last year, he demonstrated to all his steady hand and extraordinary leadership in his handling of the nation’s worst-ever police shooting incident that resulted in the death of five Dallas police officers and injury to nine others.

“David brings to Kroll a unique and highly informed perspective on many of the challenging issues currently facing our country and organizations – public and private,” said William Nugent, Regional Managing Director, North America, for Kroll’s Investigations and Disputes practice. “David’s leadership and community-based approach has been recognized as a model for effective local policing in America’s cities. He understands and has excelled at bridging the priorities, perceptions, and concerns of multiple stakeholders, and I am confident that our clients will find his forward-thinking methods immensely practical as they navigate the dynamic complexities of public safety, security, crisis management, and community relationships. For our clients and for our company, I am excited to welcome David to Kroll.”

“David’s outstanding record of achievement and public service stand as testament to his unwavering commitment to making a positive difference,” said David Fontaine, Chief Executive Officer of Kroll and its parent, Corporate Risk Holdings. “His accomplishments are many and varied. Throughout his career, he has carried out every task and challenge that he has encountered with integrity and excellence. I look forward to David sharing his experience with our teams across Kroll and in helping our clients achieve successful outcomes for their organizations.”

Brown’s service with the DPD was marked by a genuine sense of duty and commitment to the residents and communities in his hometown, and to his fellow officers. A proponent of accountability and transparency, Brown focused on instituting improvements during his tenure as Deputy Chief (2003-2010) and Chief (2010-2016) that would result in the most significant reduction in crime in the city’s history as well as increased diversity and education levels throughout the department. Brown joined the DPD in 1983 and progressively advanced to the department’s SWAT team in 1996, which he directed and served on for seven years. He was appointed Deputy Chief in 2003, at a time when Dallas had led the country in violent crimes for six years. Working alongside the then-current Chief, Brown introduced and managed an initiative to effect change via accountability among the 3,500+ sworn officers comprising the force. Through strong commitments to relationships, attracting and hiring the right people, and modeling the proper behaviors, Brown oversaw a transformation that resulted in reducing violent and overall crimes to 50- and 40-year lows, respectively. This included achieving the lowest murder rate in the modern era of

Dallas, since 1930, as well as reducing the number of officer-involved shootings by 40 percent, the lowest point on record.

Brown is frequently invited to speak to groups both locally and across the country on his community-based approach. He continues to contribute to the well-being of those in the Dallas community, and enhance relationships with law enforcement, as a Senior Fellow with the Meadows Mental Health Institute; a Senior Advisor with the Rainwater Charitable Foundation; and Chief Social Entrepreneur with Mark Cuban Enterprises, which includes work as a liaison between the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team, police officers, and young people. In addition to earning police departmental honors, Brown has received numerous awards from civic organizations that include the NAACP Dallas Branch, Dallas Interdenominational Ministers Alliance, and the National Black Police Association.

Brown earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Amberton University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree at Dallas Baptist University. He also attended the University of Texas, Austin, prior to beginning his career in law enforcement.

OneEvent Technologies debuts preventative safety solution at ISC West

LAS VEGAS April 4, 2017 OneEvent™ Technologies, a startup that created a preventative analytics engine for the building monitoring and security market is introducing the OnePrevent™ system at ISC West 2017. With the unique analytics engine inside, OnePrevent does what other alarm systems cannot: predict, alert, and prevent disasters before they occur. OnePrevent acts as an additional layer of security and can help industry professionals grow their business with its easy-to-install wireless system.

OnePrevent leverages a powerful cloud-based analytical engine that processes data collected by wireless sensors to determine what's normal within a home or building environment. By constantly measuring environmental factors such as temperature, air quality, motion, and moisture, the deep learning analytics engine learns what is 'normal' over time in a specific space. If the system receives an abnormal reading, it can determine potential risks and alert property or building managers of the possibility of a disaster, such as a fire or flood, before the event actually occurs. In UL research testing, the OnePrevent system was able to anticipate a fire up to 20 minutes before the smoke alarms went off.

OnePrevent was designed to give security dealers a preventative offering for commercial and residential installations and is the first example of the power of the OneEvent software. In addition to building a national dealer network, OneEvent will license the analytics engine with built-in machine learning algorithms – for which it holds eight U.S. patents – to manufacturers and OEMs looking to bake preventative safety into their own solutions.

The OnePrevent system consists of the following:

The OneEvent gateway connects each environmental sensor to the cloud where the patented predictive analytic engine lives. The gateway receives radio transmissions from the sensors and wirelessly transmits that information to the cloud via secure cellular connection, negating the need for Wi-Fi or other wireless transmission methods. A single gateway covers an area of 10,000 sq. feet and supports over 100 sensors.

The OneEvent multi-sensor smoke/temperature alarm features advanced photo-electric smoke and temperature sensing technology with highly accurate temperature detection. This UL 217 listed multi-sensor detects and sends independent gradient data to the analytics engine.

The OneEvent door/window sensors are adaptable for use as a perimeter or interior portal detector. The versatile contact sensor can be used in a variety of situations and reports its status to the cloud-based analytical engine.

The OneEvent multi-sensor presence detector supplies activity detection to the OnePrevent gateway and incorporates a humidity, temperature, and light sensor to further the OnePrevent system's predictive sensor data.

The OneEvent water sensor detects water and sends data to the OneEvent gateway, making it a key component in flood prevention. The detecting probe can be placed in hard-to-reach areas while keeping the transmitter unobstructed.

Engineered as a flexible system, OnePrevent can be installed wherever buildings are at risk for destructive or dangerous events such as fire, water damage, gas leaks, or even unauthorized access. Commercial and residential dealers alike can deploy a OnePrevent system to help building managers, property owners, or homeowners analyze and anticipate the potential for these damaging events to occur.

Installing the OnePrevent system offers dealers a unique opportunity to provide a new, innovative service that can save clients money and mitigate risk to their properties. As a supplemental, predictive-alert system, OnePrevent does not cannibalize existing business but instead works in cooperation with traditional security and fire/life safety systems. Additionally, the low barrier of entry for the system and ease of installation enables quick sales and gives dealers a viable route to RMR.

Dan Botsch, TrapWire Inc. President, explained the challenge addressed by TrapWire 7.0: "Our clients are collecting and managing hundreds of threat reports covering criminal activity, terrorist planning and insider threats.  Since each of these reports could represent a potential disaster for their organization, they needed a capability to detect threats within this data quickly and efficiently.  The release of TrapWire 7.0 will dramatically improve their ability to detect and preempt threats to their personnel and facilities. In addition, our clients will compare and analyze their reporting against thousands of reports from other clients across our entire network."

The added capabilities have been equally well received by private sector clients, according to Mr. Botsch.  "Providing advanced analytics is critical, but it is equally important to ensure ease of use for our customers.  A difficult to use system is a major impediment to threat reporting, which is why this issue is so important to our product team."  A Senior Security Executive in the Gaming and Hospitality Industry who has used TrapWire for seven years stated, "the new TrapWire 7.0 platform is easy to use, intuitive, and an absolute priceless analytic tool in protecting our human and capital assets as well as our critical infrastructure."

Tyco Security Products adds cybersecurity features to video management solution

WESTFORD, MA March 24, 2017 Tyco Security Products, part of Johnson Controls, introduces the latest release of the exacqVision VMS (8.4) which adds critical cybersecurity features demanded by IT departments while enhancing the user experience.

exacqVision now supports HTTPS communication between the NVR and some of the industry’s leading cameras, adding a new layer of protection to security deployments. Users can also easily acquire and configure security certificates used by exacqVision Web Services for HTTPS communication, ensuring all communication to web browsers and Exacq Mobile is encrypted.

This latest release further strengthens Exacq Mobile by supporting the use of the microphone on smart devices. The flexibility of audio support allows security operators to conduct both digital and physical patrols to better manage entrances where two-way audio exists without having to be at their workstations. In addition, new integrations with Bentel and Bosch intrusion systems allow users to arm and disarm the alarm system from the exacqVision Client or Exacq Mobile, and receive notifications with associated video of events directly in Exacq Mobile.

“We recognize the importance of protecting business infrastructure against cyber-attacks, and that certainly includes customers’ security and surveillance systems,” said Ryan Hulse, Senior Product Manager, Tyco Security Products. “Using HTTPS whenever deploying web-based solutions is an essential part of that protection, and exacqVision 8.4 makes that much easier. Using the free and open Let’s Encrypt certificate authority allows the entire process to be automated.”

Already known for its intuitive user experience, exacqVision now features a low contrast GUI designed to address the direct link between interface ergonomics and operator fatigue. Combined with other powerful features such as PTZ support for Suspect Tracking and configurable Event Thresholds, this release raises the bar for system protection, video performance and intuitive user experience.
