RESTON, VA July 12, 2017 Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a FORTUNE 500® science and technology company, was awarded one of six GSA Federal Supply Schedule Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to compete for BPA calls to provide information technology (IT) support under the GLobal INfrastructure and Development Acquisition (GLINDA) Enterprise Services program. The BPA has a base period of performance from date of award through September 29, 2019 plus three one-year options, and a maximum potential value of $679 million for all awardees if all options are exercised. Work under resultant BPA calls will be performed primarily at NRC Headquarters in Rockville, Md. and will also support each of NRC's Regional Offices in King of Prussia, Pa, Atlanta, Ga., Lisle, Ill., Arlington, Texas., and a Technical Training Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The scope of the BPA includes mobility support services, end-user computing services, network support services, data center and cloud services, and application operations and maintenance support. For BPA calls that it wins, Leidos will leverage alternatives to existing services and approaches for efficiency improvements, and offer a full complement of IT services to support the NRC's goals and objectives. The work will contribute to the modernization and rebalancing of the NRC's information management and IT functions to provide greater product innovation to the workforce.

NORTH BILLERICA, MA July 11, 2017 Passport Systems, Inc. today announced the release of version 2.0 of its SmartShield™ Networked Radiation Detection System software. In addition to its groundbreaking Analysis function, the SmartShield system now includes the SmartShield Source Simulation application that allows users to electronically inject a simulated radioactive source to provide a full fidelity simulation of an actual event. For the first time, customers can train to find either a stationary or a moving source without deploying a physical source.
"This could change the game for how we train ConOps," said Tom Hughes, Director of Product Management for SmartShield Technology. "The SmartShield Source Simulation application enables hazmat units to train without the logistics of radiation sources, in public areas should they choose, using the equipment that they would use in day-to-day operations. This type of training allows agencies to reevaluate and modify ConOps to meet the growing radiological threat."
The SmartShield system is comprised of small gamma-radiation detectors that collect radiation data and transmit the information wirelessly through smartphones, forming a network that allows security forces to simultaneously respond to any threats. While on patrol, security and law enforcement officers collect background radiation data. When gamma radiation is detected, an alert and GPS coordinates are sent throughout the network, to a central command station, and to responding law enforcement personnel.
The capabilities of the revolutionary SmartShield system have been expanded:
- SmartShield Source Simulation, our all-new simulation tool.
- Extended battery life.
- Includes Analysis Mode, to compare previous radiation maps, and highlight changes in detected isotopes across the survey area.

These new capabilities are part of the continuing evolution of the SmartShield System, demonstrating that radiation detection technology does not have to be static and stagnant. Making the software application stronger, less dependent on particular smartphone models is a move that will enable SmartShield technology to be platform independent in the future.

STRATHAM, NH July 11, 2017 Visible Assets, Inc. Completes Bureau of Reclamation Contract: Armory 20/20 Provides Enhanced, Critical Homeland Infrastructure Protection and Physical Security for Grand Coulee Dam.
Visible Assets, Inc. (Visible ®) Stratham, NH, has completed installation and a contract for "Weapons And Equipment Tracking System," a secure, automated armory as specified in RFQ# R16PS01283 by the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation). The Visible Armory 20/20 product is based on RuBee (IEEE 1902.1) wireless tags with Allegro 20/20, Weapons Shot Counting (WSC) tags with Prognostic Health Maintenance (PHM) sensors attached to the weapons. Armory 20/20 delivers a fully-automated wireless weapon audit in minutes that can be scheduled or run on demand with 100% read accuracy and automated issuance stations that provide positive ID for the Guard, ID for the checked-in or checked-out weapon, and the Armorer ID, with date and time stamps. Finally, the RuBee DoorGuard reads the weapon tag as it enters or exits the facility. If the weapon is not properly issued, the DoorGuard will alarm and sends the event over the network to the Armory 20/20 application.
The WSC tag-equipped firearms provide asset tracking, weapon shot count, interval statistics (rate of fire), and calculated barrel temperature. These features provide users with alerts for general maintenance, cleaning, and prevention of gas port and barrel erosion. The Weapon Location Module provides location on the rack and alerts users if a weapon is stored in the incorrect slot. The RuBee IO visibility framework can generate "AccuAudit" Blockchain audits which deliver cradle-to-grave authenticated reports of any weapon's pedigree, ownership, and use. Armory 20/20 is built on the RuBee IO platform and has been in use at other US and foreign sites for over seven years.

MUNICH July 11, 2017 The Munich-based electronics company Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract from the German Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) to equip initially 50 command vehicles with the joint radio system of the German Armed Forces, also known as SVFuA. This is an advance measure in the "Mobile Tactical Communications" (MoTaKo) program for digitizing tactical communications within the German Armed Forces.
Following many years of joint development, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has signed a contract with Rohde & Schwarz for the procurement of the SVFuA. SVFuA operates on the principle of the software defined radio (SDR) and offers secure, trustworthy communications up to the classification level SECRET. Rohde & Schwarz drew on its in-house cryptology development as a key national technology. Initially, 50 command vehicles - PUMA infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) and BOXER armored transport vehicles (ATV) - will be equipped. Rohde & Schwarz will produce and deliver the first installment of the overall SVFuA system by 2020. The contract's framework agreement allows the Federal Armed Forces to order additional SVFuA systems within a seven-year timeframe.

In 2009, Rohde & Schwarz was given responsibility for the overall design and the overall system as well as for developing a prototype base unit and proving that it could be series produced. In 2016, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) confirmed that the requirements for certification at the classification level SECRET had been met. Certification in line with the internationally recognized Software Communications Architecture (SCA) standard for SDR radio systems was a prerequisite for customer acceptance. Since the radio system was developed in line with the SCA standard, it is possible to port current and future national and international waveforms onto the radio system as long as these waveforms also meet the requirements set out in the SCA standard.
The SVFuA gives the German Armed Forces all the tools needed to create and especially protect information superiority. It also ensures interfaces with allies during joint missions and for collective defense. With the acquisition of the SVFuA, the German Armed Forces is taking the first step in modernizing its tactical communications within the framework of the MoTaKo program. To support these projects over the long-term, Rohde & Schwarz decided to set up a joint venture with Rheinmetall AG for the purpose of submitting a tender as a general contractor. CAESAREA, Israel July 11, 2017 GPSdome Ltd., the cyber company, announced today that it has performed successful airborne tests of its Cyber device for protection against GPS jamming and spoofing. The tests were conducted jointly with Bluebird Aero Systems Ltd., which specializes in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

WASHINGTON, July 13, 2017 Hudson Institute has been awarded a $500,000 grant by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to expand bipartisan political consensus on how to prevent terrorists from obtaining existing nuclear weapons, materials, or technologies. The project will be led by Dr. Richard Weitz, Director of Hudson Institute's Center for Political-Military Analysis.

The grant will focus on preventing, deterring and responding to malign sub-state actors attempting to obtain an existing nuclear weapon or make an improvised nuclear explosive device through stolen, bought, or diverted highly enriched uranium and separated plutonium. Through media engagements, policy briefs, and public and private events, the project will focus on reducing U.S. partisan divisions surrounding the issue of nuclear security and prepare the next generation of nuclear security experts. The grant is part of a larger $4.4. million initiative led by the MacArthur Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York to reduce nuclear risk and reinforce the goals established by the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Richard Weitz is a Senior Fellow at Hudson Institute and Director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis. His current research includes regional security developments relating to Europe, Eurasia, and East Asia as well as U.S. foreign and defense policies. In recent years, Dr. Weitz has authored or edited several books and monographs, including Promoting U.S.-Indian Defense Cooperation (2017); Enhancing the Georgia-US Security Partnership (2016); Parsing Chinese-Russian Military Exercises (2015); Reforming U.S. Export Controls Reforms (2015); Turkey's New Regional Security Role: Implications for the United States (2014); Rebuilding American Military Power in the Pacific (2013); Global Security Watch—China (2013); War and Governance: International Security in a Changing World Order (2011); Global Security Watch—Russia (2009); Mismanaging Mayhem: How Washington Responds to Crisis (2008); Revitalising U.S.–Russian Security Cooperation: Practical Measures (2005); and two volumes of National Security Case Studies (Project on National Security Reform, 2012 and 2008).
