Nuclear Regulatory Commission tabs Leidos for a spot on GLINDA BPA

Heise

RESTON, VA July 12, 2017 Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a FORTUNE 500® science and technology company, was awarded one of six GSA Federal Supply Schedule Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs)  by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to compete for BPA calls to provide information technology (IT) support under the GLobal INfrastructure and Development Acquisition (GLINDA) Enterprise Services program.  The BPA has a base period of performance from date of award through September 29, 2019 plus three one-year options, and a maximum potential value of $679 million for all awardees if all options are exercised.    Work under resultant BPA calls will be performed primarily at NRC Headquarters in Rockville, Md. and will also support each of NRC's Regional Offices in King of Prussia, Pa, Atlanta, Ga., Lisle, Ill.,  Arlington, Texas., and a Technical Training Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The scope of the BPA includes mobility support services, end-user computing services, network support services, data center and cloud services, and application operations and maintenance support.  For BPA calls that it wins, Leidos will leverage alternatives to existing services and approaches for efficiency improvements, and offer a full complement of IT services to support the NRC's goals and objectives.  The work will contribute to the modernization and rebalancing of the NRC's information management and IT functions to provide greater product innovation to the workforce.

"The Leidos team understands the NRC's mission as well as their IT strategy," said Leidos Civil President Angie Heise. "We look forward to providing the domain expertise and innovation required to propel them on their IT services transformation journey."

Passport Systems releases latest version of radiation detection system software

NORTH BILLERICA, MA July 11, 2017 Passport Systems, Inc. today announced the release of version 2.0 of its SmartShield™ Networked Radiation Detection System software. In addition to its groundbreaking Analysis function, the SmartShield system now includes the SmartShield Source Simulation application that allows users to electronically inject a simulated radioactive source to provide a full fidelity simulation of an actual event.  For the first time, customers can train to find either a stationary or a moving source without deploying a physical source.

"This could change the game for how we train ConOps," said Tom Hughes, Director of Product Management for SmartShield Technology. "The SmartShield Source Simulation application enables hazmat units to train without the logistics of radiation sources, in public areas should they choose, using the equipment that they would use in day-to-day operations.  This type of training allows agencies to reevaluate and modify ConOps to meet the growing radiological threat."

The SmartShield system is comprised of small gamma-radiation detectors that collect radiation data and transmit the information wirelessly through smartphones, forming a network that allows security forces to simultaneously respond to any threats. While on patrol, security and law enforcement officers collect background radiation data. When gamma radiation is detected, an alert and GPS coordinates are sent throughout the network, to a central command station, and to responding law enforcement personnel.

The capabilities of the revolutionary SmartShield system have been expanded:

  • SmartShield Source Simulation, our all-new simulation tool.
  • Extended battery life.
  • Includes Analysis Mode, to compare previous radiation maps, and highlight changes in detected isotopes across the survey area.
  • Includes Replay Mode, to playback a previous survey, allowing for closer review of previous events.
  • Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S4, S6, and S7 phones.

These new capabilities are part of the continuing evolution of the SmartShield System, demonstrating that radiation detection technology does not have to be static and stagnant.  Making the software application stronger, less dependent on particular smartphone models is a move that will enable SmartShield technology to be platform independent in the future.

"The SmartShield system and source simulation application will continue to set the standard for the radiation detection industry," said Dr. Robert Ledoux, President, CEO, and Director of Passport Systems, Inc. "Together with our recent NCS4 lab evaluation, these expanded capabilities represent a dramatic growth in our ability to protect people and events."

In the United States, the SmartShield technology has been used to beef up security at the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament in Houston, at the Boston Marathon, and other crowd gathering events, such as NASCAR races in New Hampshire.  Internationally, it is being marketed for use at celebrations, soccer matches, concerts, as well as airports, and ports.

Visible Assets, Inc. installs weapons tracking solution at Grand Coulee Dam

STRATHAM, NH July 11, 2017 Visible Assets, Inc. Completes Bureau of Reclamation Contract: Armory 20/20 Provides Enhanced, Critical Homeland Infrastructure Protection and Physical Security for Grand Coulee Dam.

Visible Assets, Inc. (Visible ®) Stratham, NH, has completed installation and a contract for "Weapons And Equipment Tracking System," a secure, automated armory as specified in RFQ# R16PS01283 by the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation). The Visible Armory 20/20 product is based on RuBee (IEEE 1902.1) wireless tags with Allegro 20/20, Weapons Shot Counting (WSC) tags with Prognostic Health Maintenance (PHM) sensors attached to the weapons.  Armory 20/20 delivers a fully-automated wireless weapon audit in minutes that can be scheduled or run on demand with 100% read accuracy and automated issuance stations that provide positive ID for the Guard, ID for the checked-in or checked-out weapon, and the Armorer ID, with date and time stamps. Finally, the RuBee DoorGuard reads the weapon tag as it enters or exits the facility. If the weapon is not properly issued, the DoorGuard will alarm and sends the event over the network to the Armory 20/20 application.

The WSC tag-equipped firearms provide asset tracking, weapon shot count, interval statistics (rate of fire), and calculated barrel temperature.  These features provide users with alerts for general maintenance, cleaning, and prevention of gas port and barrel erosion. The Weapon Location Module provides location on the rack and alerts users if a weapon is stored in the incorrect slot.  The RuBee IO visibility framework can generate "AccuAudit" Blockchain audits which deliver cradle-to-grave authenticated reports of any weapon's pedigree, ownership, and use. Armory 20/20 is built on the RuBee IO platform and has been in use at other US and foreign sites for over seven years.

Tim Pierce, Vice President of Visible Assets, Inc. said, "Visible has over 1,200 active RuBee Defense and Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) customer sites worldwide. We have many Armory and WSC customers, but Reclamation is the first to implement the WSC capability and RuBee ID badge along with the Armory 20/20 asset visibility product. RuBee has consistently met the most critical customer requirement of 100% accurate read rates for all assets, even in high steel content environments and high EMI noise environments. We have hard data that shows both the automated smart rack audits and issuance are consistently accurate. Our system also meets all of the human, explosive, and security requirements."

RuBee wireless tags emit magnetic fields that are not blocked by steel or liquids. RuBee is the only wireless technology that has a proven zero safe separation distance on fused ordnance and nuclear warheads (HERO ZERO rubee.io/HERO-PR). RuBee is safe on and near high explosives (HERF ZERO). RuBee is physically secure and produces no Compromising Emanations, with no Eavesdropping, Target or Tempest risk. The tags have a five to ten-year battery life and are in an MIL-STD-810G sealed, rugged package, and can include optional sensors.

About The Bureau of Reclamation
The Bureau of Reclamation manages, develops, and protects water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner. Rohde & Schwarz equip German forces with state-of-the-art radio systems

MUNICH July 11, 2017 The Munich-based electronics company Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a contract from the German Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) to equip initially 50 command vehicles with the joint radio system of the German Armed Forces, also known as SVFuA. This is an advance measure in the "Mobile Tactical Communications" (MoTaKo) program for digitizing tactical communications within the German Armed Forces.

Following many years of joint development, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has signed a contract with Rohde & Schwarz for the procurement of the SVFuA. SVFuA operates on the principle of the software defined radio (SDR) and offers secure, trustworthy communications up to the classification level SECRET. Rohde & Schwarz drew on its in-house cryptology development as a key national technology. Initially, 50 command vehicles - PUMA infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) and BOXER armored transport vehicles (ATV) - will be equipped. Rohde & Schwarz will produce and deliver the first installment of the overall SVFuA system by 2020. The contract's framework agreement allows the Federal Armed Forces to order additional SVFuA systems within a seven-year timeframe.

Harald Stein, President of BAAINBw: "Equipping the first PUMA and BOXER command vehicles with SVFuA is an important first step toward MoTaKo. We are pleased that with Rohde & Schwarz we have found a technologically-leading partner for this key modernization project."

In 2009, Rohde & Schwarz was given responsibility for the overall design and the overall system as well as for developing a prototype base unit and proving that it could be series produced. In 2016, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) confirmed that the requirements for certification at the classification level SECRET had been met. Certification in line with the internationally recognized Software Communications Architecture (SCA) standard for SDR radio systems was a prerequisite for customer acceptance. Since the radio system was developed in line with the SCA standard, it is possible to port current and future national and international waveforms onto the radio system as long as these waveforms also meet the requirements set out in the SCA standard.

The SVFuA gives the German Armed Forces all the tools needed to create and especially protect information superiority. It also ensures interfaces with allies during joint missions and for collective defense. Hartmut Jäschke, Senior Vice President Market Segment Secure Communications Sales and Projects at Rohde & Schwarz, explains: "With the SVFuA system, the German Armed Forces lays the foundation for state-of-the-art, future-ready tactical communications. As a trusted German partner, Rohde & Schwarz fulfills all the customer's requirements for a scalable, reconfigurable, and future-proof overall system. The company has demonstrated the implementation of current third-party waveforms on the software defined radio while preserving intellectual property rights, satisfying today's requirements for interoperability with partners."

With the acquisition of the SVFuA, the German Armed Forces is taking the first step in modernizing its tactical communications within the framework of the MoTaKo program. To support these projects over the long-term, Rohde & Schwarz decided to set up a joint venture with Rheinmetall AG for the purpose of submitting a tender as a general contractor. Both German companies offer a broad portfolio of trustworthy technology and years of experience in complex undertakings.

Israeli company conducts successful tests of GPS anti-jamming, anti-spoofing solution

CAESAREA, Israel July 11, 2017 GPSdome Ltd., the cyber company, announced today that it has performed successful airborne tests of its Cyber device for protection against GPS jamming and spoofing. The tests were conducted jointly with Bluebird Aero Systems Ltd., which specializes in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

"We installed our GPSdome on a Bluebird small UAV in order to test its GPS protection during a flight under jamming conditions," said Moshe Kaplan, GPSdome CTO. "The successful tests showed that the GPSdome-protectd UAV continued functioning under jamming attacks and retained its GPS reception, while the unprotected UAV lost the GPS signal".

"Our GPSdome is a perfect solution for small UAV and other unmanned vehicles, which require a miniaturized solution that doesn't reduce their range of action," said Ehud Sharar, GPSdome CEO. "The amazing minimal SWaP (size, weight and power) of our GPSdome make it ideal for autonomous vehicles as well as for personal gear."

"US department of Homeland Security (DHS) operates autonomous drones patrolling over the USA-Mexico border, which suffer jamming attacks by border smugglers, mainly the drug cartels," said Gai Mar-Chaim, Senior Partner at the management consulting firm POC. "The DHS gives high priority for lightweight anti-jamming solutions for this challenge, and GPSdome is the only commercially available solution that weighs less than 150 gram and consumes power less than 0.75 Watt."

"We meet a lot of interest in our GPSdome for civilian applications, since all other existing similar products have been designed according to military-oriented requirements and cost accordingly," said Omer Sharar, GPSdome VP Marketing. "Our affordable product is miniaturized to better fit civilian applications such as homeland security, emergency & rescue, fleet management, utilities & infrastructures, network synchronization, financial transactions and many more."

GPSdome Ltd. developed a cyber protection solution against jamming and disruption for GPS-based systems. Its competitive advantage is its affordable price comparing to existing solutions that were developed for military applications, while GPSdome has been better designed for civilian applications. The company's development team includes electronic warfare (EW) engineers who previously worked for the defense industries, and have developed the GPSdome based on advanced military technologies. However, innovative miniaturization technologies and product adjustments to civilian applications enabled lowering its price significantly.

Darktrace partners with CITIC Telecom CPC to deliver cybersecurity solution in Asia

HONG KONG July 11, 2017 Darktrace, the leader in Enterprise Immune System technology, has today announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with industry-leading managed security services provider (MSSP) CITIC Telecom CPC, a wholly owned subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (SEHK:1883), to bring next-generation cyber defense to businesses across Asia Pacific. Impressed by Darktrace's advanced machine learning and proven ability to catch and mitigate threats inside its own network, CITIC Telecom CPC will now bring Darktrace to market as a leading MSSP partner in APAC, across its multiple branches.

"After witnessing the power of Darktrace's technology first-hand, CITIC Telecom CPC wanted to share the value of this disruptive AI for cyber defense on a large scale," commented Mr Daniel Kwong, Senior Vice President, Information Technology and Security Services at CITIC Telecom CPC. "As we have seen from the headlines, humans are consistently outpaced by increasingly automated threats, organizations increasingly recognize that traditional defenses focussed on past threats only provide the most essential protection.

"Companies in Asia Pacific need a new approach to remain resilient in the face of brazen, never-seen-before advanced attacks. With Darktrace, our customers can successfully defend against all manner of novel threats. This strategic partnership will enable our customers in Asia Pacific to benefit from Darktrace's world-leading AI technology and CITIC Telecom CPC's managed security services expertise and around-the-clock Security Operation Centers, all under the TrustCSI(TM) Secure AI umbrella."

As the cyber-climate intensifies, Asia Pacific businesses are battling fierce attacks on a daily basis. New-age attacks, like polymorphic malware, constantly evolve to evade traditional securities and human eyes at the border. Other stealthy actors can move laterally across the network, looking for the crown jewels before they strike. Meanwhile, loud and indiscriminate attacks, like ransomware, can wreak havoc within minutes as criminals grind business operations to a halt in an attempt to extort money from crippled organizations. China's educational institutions and smaller Asian enterprises were hard hit in the recent WannaCry outbreak, prompting businesses to safeguard against future attacks.

Mimicking the self-learning intelligence of the human immune system, the Enterprise Immune System builds an understanding of the 'pattern of life' of every user and device on a network. It can then identify emerging threats in real time and issue an autonomous response akin to 'digital antibodies' to neutralize an attack before it has inflicted damage. Coupled with CITIC Telecom CPC's innovative approach to cyber security and post-threat intelligence capabilities, Darktrace's AI technology for cyber defense empowers regional businesses of all sizes to effectively defend against even the most sophisticated cyber-threats, including 'unknown unknowns''.

"As the Asian economy grows from strength to strength, local businesses need to prepare today for tomorrow's threat," commented Nicole Eagan, CEO at Darktrace. "Proven across over 2,400 deployments, Darktrace is the world's first and only AI able to automatically fight back against in-progress threats. We are excited to extend our transformative technology within the Asian market with best-in-class MSSP, CITIC Telecom CPC. This new partnership will further strengthen our ability to respond to the overwhelming demand for our cutting-edge machine-learning technology across the Asia-Pacific region, enabling companies to inoculate themselves against threats from within."

About Darktrace

Darktrace is the world's leading machine learning company for cyber security. Created by mathematicians from the University of Cambridge, the Enterprise Immune System uses AI algorithms to automatically detect and take action against cyber-threats within all types of networks, including physical, cloud and virtualized networks, as well as IoT and industrial control systems. A self-configuring platform, Darktrace requires no prior set-up, identifying advanced threats in real time, including zero-days, insiders and stealthy, silent attackers. Headquartered in San Francisco and Cambridge, UK, Darktrace has 24 offices worldwide. For more information, please visitwww.darktrace.com
