Fourteen engineers, terminal operators and authority officials complete Certified Port Executive Program
LONG BEACH, CA MacDonnell Group President Ralston MacDonnell welcomed another 14 seaport managers from across the US to the CPE Certified Port Executive Program as they completed the intensive program in Long Beach. Members of this class represented port authorities, terminal operators and consulting engineers from the west and east coasts.
“We are fortunate to have such talent across our industry. Developing a global, diverse management infrastructure is clearly the competitive advantage for the business. These new Certified Port Executive graduates will help ensure that leadership is prepared for the future growth of the industry,” stated MacDonnell.
Divided into eighteen interactive modules, the participants also took part in a specific strategic planning project designed to enhance leadership skills and address organizational management goals.
“Wonderful learning opportunity and very effective use of time” said Dr. Allison Yoh, Director of Transportation Planning, Port of Long Beach.
The Long Beach group was one of the most diverse to date representing most members of a senior management team. Titles such as General Counsel, Human Resources Director, Security Director, Director of Transportation Planning and Government Relations Director made for a unique team to contemplate some of the challenges facing the industry.
“I truly enjoyed the course and found the training informative and enlightening”, Samara Ashley, Director of Government Relations, Port of Long Beach.
“It is such a great pleasure to see our new Certified Port Executive team members going forward after a very intensive leadership development exercise. Their talent, passion and energy for the business brought fresh perspectives to important issues port operators now confront in an increasingly competitive environment. The future of the industry is in good hands,” added Instructor Paul Zimmermann formerly Director of Operations at the Port of New Orleans.
Sean Clark, Port of St Helens Terminal Manager commended Zimmerman for effectively leading the diverse group through complex topics such as terminal automation, climate change and human resource planning. “The instructor’s depth, combined with the diversity of the group, made the training invaluable. I highly recommend the program”.
