A note from Government Security News regarding the closing of Global Security News

Thanks to alerts from concerned readers and advertisers of Government Security News, we learned yesterday that attempts to log into the “GSN” website have resulted in notices to the effect that “Sorry, this publication is not available” and “GSN ceased publication on July 31, 2014.” This came as a very unpleasant piece of news to those of us who were looking forward to our next paycheck, but we’re happy to report that we’ve been able to get to the bottom of the mystery:

The full name of the publication that has been shuttered, and is also known by the abbreviation “GSN,” is Global Security Newswire, which was published on a contract basis by the National Journal, owner of the Atlantic Magazine, Government Executive and other blue-ribbon media properties. Global Security Newswire is owned by NTI, which stands for the Nuclear Threat Initiative, founded some years ago by Ted Turner, creator of CNN, and Sam Nunn, former Senator from Georgia. The board of NTI includes such equally celebrated personages as Warren Buffet, Michael Douglas, Susan Eisenhower, HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan.

We regret to see the closing of a high quality member of the press and wish continued success in their important missions both to the National Journal and NTI. We’d also very much appreciate if they would consider putting a disclaimer on their notices of the demise of “GSN” to the effect that the “GSN” whose full name is “Government Security News” is alive and well and, as usual, working on some very exciting editorial plans for the future.
