Mission: Enhance E.U. cyber security

Earlier this summer, a group of European ministers, senior officials from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and other influential European leaders assembled in Brussels for a cyber exercise demonstration. The demonstration was requested by the European Security Round Table (ESRT) as part of that organization’s conference called Shared Threats -- Shared Solutions: Toward a European Cyber Policy.

High-definition video conferencing gives federal agencies tools for cost savings and increased productivity through secure teleworking and collaborative work environments. Federal executives, then, must understand the security issues of HD video conferencing -- on-premise or in the cloud.

In video conferencing, agencies are concerned with secure data storage, controlling and handling classified information to protect it from falling into the wrong hands.

A year of historic breaches from RSA, Epsilon and Lockheed Martin to the Sony PlayStation Network, demonstrates how ineffective the best security technologies can be when people are involved.

Many attackers today leverage the human factor, bypassing most security controls and using techniques such as social engineering to get the information they want, simply by luring users to open an email, click on a link or download an attachment.

9/11 unleashed ripples of uncertainty and fear of further attacks in the following months. While this was expected, given the enormity of the event, did the federal and state response fuel the terror of terrorism?

I would argue that it did, and that effective risk communication strategies are still lacking 10 years later. Furthermore, failure to implement a comprehensive risk communication strategy that covers natural and man-made disasters will continue to undermine preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

Consider the statistics: There were 20 government system breaches by May 3, 2011, according to idtheftcenter.org. 80 percent of experience is never captured or reused, said clarabridge.com. 42 percent of professionals use inaccurate information, according to Accenture. And an IDC study in kmworld.com observed that 25 percent of our work already exists.

Vector Firm

There was a time when a trade show budget was never questioned. If your company had a product to launch, training to conduct, leads to generate or branding to imprint, the industry’s major trade show was the place to do it.

Millions of dollars every year were spent by manufacturers and service providers and no one ever blinked (the accounting department always blinked but were afraid to say anything) – these shows were untouchable.

To follow the trends and see how the landscape is changing for Trade Shows please download this White Paper. This paper was written by Chris Peterson.

Chris Peterson is Co-Founder and Principal Owner of Vector Firm, a management consulting and training firm focused on the sales and business development operations of companies within the security industry.
