Medeco wins two Govies Awards for access control solutions

SALEM, Va., April 3, 2017 Medeco Security Locks, a division of ASSA ABLOY N.A., located in Salem, Va., was announced the winner of two GOVIES Awards by Security Today magazine. The awards honor outstanding government security products in a variety of categories.

Medeco won in the Access Control Devices/Peripherals – Wireless category for the Medeco XT Slim Line B Key with XT Air app; and in the Locks and Locking Systems category for the Medeco XT Dual-Tech Cylinder.

"The Medeco XT Slim Line B key with Bluetooth (BLE) technology and its companion XT Air application takes the concept of 'intelligent keys' to a whole new level," said Gene Cronin, Medeco XT and Aperio product line manager. "Administrators now have the option of programming keys from any location within a cellular coverage area. There's no need to 'dock the key' with a USB tether or directly to a programming device in order to program a key's access schedule or to view audit trail information.  All an administrator needs to do is click on the app on a Smartphone or tablet to access the latest XT Web Manager software, and immediately upload or download data as desired."

The XT Air app is available for Android and iOS platforms and connects directly to the XT Web Manager, allowing administrators to complete any one of five different functions: unlock cylinders, electronically remove SFIC cores, program the lost key list in cylinder, upload audit data from cylinders and transfer to the XT database, and collect audit information from cylinders in the system.

The other Medeco award winner—the patent-pending Medeco XT Dual-Tech retrofit cylinder—was designed for both accountability and rapid-entry applications. It combines two cylinder technologies in one mortise housing—the Medeco XT electronic cylinder and the Medeco X4 mechanical cylinder-ideal for local fire department use.
