Raytheon becomes title sponsor of National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition
Raytheon has become the title sponsor of the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NCCDC) in a three-year partnership deal. It will sponsor the upcoming competition in San Antonio from April 25-27th that will include participants from over 180 colleges and universities in addition to other regional competitions throughout 2014. Raytheon will provide employee volunteers, products, and technical guidance during the sponsorship.
"Our nation's military, government and commercial sectors are in dire need of cyber talent as we rely ever more on the cyber domain and face ever-increasing threats," said Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon's Intelligence, Information, and Services. "As a leading provider of cyber security solutions, we are committed to increasing awareness of and interest in cyber careers, and have partnered with NCCDC because we believe in its mission to provide hands-on experience needed for the next generation of cyber leaders."
Raytheon offers cybersecurity products, solutions, and training to its clients and also provides science, technology, engineering and math career programs and initiatives for high school and college students.
"We are honored that a company with Raytheon's credentials in cyber and STEM has joined us along with other commercial and government partners like the Department of Homeland Security in promoting cyber security careers to college students around the country," said Dwayne Williams, NCCDC director. "We look forward to a long-term partnership that we hope will help narrow the gap in filling cyber security and information technology jobs that are critical to protecting the country against cyber threats."
The NCCDC was founded at the University of Texas in its Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security in 2005. It offers qualifying, regional, and state level competitions to provide realistic and educational cybersecurity challenges for collegiate teams to learn how to manage a company in the midst of a cyber attack. Both graduate and undergraduate students compete on teams to manage workstations and servers and perform business activities while defending themselves from cyberattacks.
