Intellicheck Mobilisa obtains U.S. patent for enhanced ID Check technology

Dr. Nelson Ludlow

Intellicheck Mobilisa of Port Townsend, WA, a major supplier of identity solutions and wireless security systems, has obtained a U.S. patent for a technology that reads the information encoded on an ID card, authenticates and displays the bearer’s birthdate and also displays a sample reference image of the ID just scanned to assist in the authentication process.

The new patent, Intellicheck Mobilisa’s 17th, builds on the company’s existing ID Check technology that can instantly read, parse, compare, and display encoded data from the barcodes on government-issued IDs. Intended to prevent the sale of age-restricted items to underage buyers, it provides the user with a readout that displays the age of the ID card bearer and verifies the card’s expiration date.  A “license background graphic” shows users a sample image of what the ID just scanned should look like. The technology currently includes sample images of driver licenses from every U.S. State and Canadian province.

Dr. Nelson Ludlow, CEO of Intellicheck Mobilisa, said, “This patent represents our latest ID verification technology designed to enhance the security of businesses and their customers. It strengthens our existing ID Check verification technology to make it easier for business owners who sell age-restricted  products, such as alcohol or tobacco, to avoid unauthorized sales. Displaying a reference image of the ID being scanned is a feature that we have already successfully incorporated into our barZapp app for iPhone and Android. For example, if a customer presents a Washington State driver license, the display will show a sample Washington State driver license for comparison. By incorporating this extra layer of protection, we hope to keep business owners from facing prosecution due to illegal sales of restricted products.”

Intellicheck Mobilisa is a technology company providing wireless technology and identity systems for various applications, including mobile and handheld access control and security systems for the government, military and commercial markets. Products include the Fugitive Finder system, an advanced ID card access control product currently protecting military bases and secure federal locations; ID Check, a patented technology that instantly reads, analyzes and verifies encoded data in magnetic stripes and barcodes on government based IDs, designed to improve the Customer experience for the hospitality and retail sectors; and barZapp, an ID-checking mobile app that allows a users’ smartphone to check an ID card.
