TSA adds more airports, airlines to Pre Check program

Frequent flyer passengers at seven more airports can now use TSA’s Pre Check security pre-screening system and passengers on newly-added airlines at four other airports can too.

The agency released details of the expansions and additions on March 30.

The Pre Check program, which embeds a barcode on the tickets of the pre-approved passengers allows passage through an expedited screening line at participating airport, is currently operational at 11 airports nationwide. TSA is expanding to additional airports and airlines, including lanes at existing locations.

TSA noted that Pre Check passengers may be referred to a lane where they will undergo expedited screening, which could include being able to leave their shoes, light outerwear and belt on, allowing them to keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on. It also said participation in the program doesn’t mean passengers will completely avoid the typical screening processes and may be subject to random selection for those processes.

Alaska Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways will begin offering Pre Check screening at select locations in the coming months, said the agency. It said the program will be operational at many of the nation’s largest airports by the end of the year.
