The Department of Transportation’s Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, which is located in Cambridge, MA, has awarded an 8(a) small business set-aside contract valued at $4.3 million to Comprehensive Security Services, Inc., of Sacramento, CA, to provide armed guard services at the Center.
The contract award, which was announced by DoT on Jan. 28, envisions a one-year base period and four one-year option periods.
During that time, Comprehensive Security will be required to provide armed guard services 24-hours per day, 7 days per week, year round, according to the award notice.
The Volpe Center made clear in its solicitation that it expects the selected contractor to provide “a notably and visibly professional armed guard force” that would be responsible for all management, supervision, labor, training, equipment, supplies, licenses, permits, certificates, insurance and pre-employment screenings.
The Volpe Center, which is headquartered at 55 Broadway in Cambridge, consists of six separate buildings on a 14-acre site.
The chosen vendor will be expected to provide a minimum of one captain, one lieutenant and five armed guards during day shifts, and a minimum of one sergeant and one armed guard during evening, night and weekend shifts.
Comprehensive Security says it was founded more than 21 years ago and currently has more than 250 employees.
“With our certified, highly-trained, and dedicated security personnel, as well as our committed and knowledgeable support staff and managers, CSSI has grown into a leading security company with contracts that vary in size from small private businesses to large government entities,” says Bashir Choudry, the company’s president, on the firm’s Website.
