IDO Security installs MagShoe devices in Geneva, Switzerland’s Central Prison

MagShoe shoe scanner

IDO Security, Inc., developer of the MagShoe shoe-scanning device (SSD), announced on Jan. 20 that following a successful trial period which concluded last December in the Geneva Central Prison in Switzerland, Swiss Prison Authorities have purchased and installed the first operational units of the MagShoe in that prison.

The company is working with its local Swiss distributor, Max C. Meister AG, to build on its momentum, and is expecting to install additional MagShoe devices in other Swiss correctional facilities during 2012. This Swiss installation further increases the MagShoe's market presence in European correctional facilities, which already includes units in operation in Italy, Andorra and Ireland.

Authorities in the Swiss prison service took great interest in the MagShoe to resolve an acute problem in their prison facilities between prison wardens and legal counsels who were visiting their incarcerated clients. Security concerns about possible smuggled weapons required inspection of footwear; however, lawyers took offense at having to remove their shoes prior to prison visits.

"During the trial period, prison wardens found that the MagShoe 3G/HS offered an ideal solution to this daily conflict by ensuring maximum security standards and providing high detection of metallic threats, without forcing lawyers to take off their shoes," said Christoph Meister from Max C. Meister AG. "We believe this successful installation is a stepping stone for additional units being ordered throughout Switzerland for correctional facilities as well as other markets in need of homeland security or loss prevention."

In addition, the company is launching a marketing campaign focused on U.S. correctional facilities by hosting a booth at the American Correctional Association, ACA Winter Conference, in Phoenix AZ, on January 20-25.

"We are excited with the continued expansion in the correctional facilities market and the fact that the MagShoe is operational in numerous prison facilities in Europe will enable us to market the MagShoe more effectively at the ACA Winter Conference,” said Avishai Rotshtain, product manager for IDO Security.
