Varian Medical Systems, Inc. has developed a new X-ray tube designed to operate in security systems capable of generating high resolution detailed images needed to detect threats in airports, military bases, prisons and other secured facilities.
The new Varian MCS-80 tube facilitates the detection of non-metallic items such as ceramic weapons, plastic explosives, narcotics, liquids and other concealed substances.
"The new tube provides the security industry with a customized yet cost effective X-ray tube that can be used to develop systems that expose threats and contraband items that may be concealed on a person's body or within a parcel," said Jim Kone, Varian’s product manager for industrial and security X-ray applications.
The powerful MCS-80 tube operates at 80 kV and utilizes advanced anode technology and a small focal spot to optimize resolution and produce highly detailed images. The new tube, which features Varian's air-cooled stationary anode metal ceramic design, joins Varian's extensive line of industrial X-ray tubes for non-destructive imaging, thickness gauging, food inspection and various security applications. Varian's X-ray tubes provide a variety of target angles, focal spots and power capabilities.
