Machine-to-machine communications, or M2M, is the automated interchange of information between several machines or between machines and a control center. In more and more areas of business and life, M2M is making entirely new business models possible by simplifying workflows and improving processes.

M2M takes the big data conversation to new levels because it allows users to collect data, analyze it and gain deeper insights into production and processes.

It is possible to forecast the types of warfare that one’s terrorist adversary is likely to conduct, whether as an organized group or as “lone wolf” operatives. Such a forecasting capability is especially crucial when complete information about one’s terrorist adversary is lacking. This is important because several recent high visibility terrorist attacks could have been pre-empted and thwarted if the intelligence and law enforcement agencies that were tracking these groups and operatives had possessed such a forecasting capability.

The disastrous results of the Boston Marathon bombings are testimony to the ineffectiveness of current security systems to predict and help avert devastating attacks. Although Boston’s security infrastructure was quite effective at post-disaster forensics, enabling the identification and neutralization of two suspects only days after the bombings, the community still had to suffer hundreds of injuries, loss of lives and hundreds of millions of dollars in collateral damage.

Setting the stage for LTE in Mobile County

Mobile County, Alabama, was looking for ways to expand its public safety communications footprint. At the same time, it wanted to tap into the power of LTE broadband to ensure the highest levels of interoperability and connectivity for its senior leadership, regardless of their physical location.

IRS estimates put the 2012 tax gap at almost $350 billion, and a recent audit indicated that the IRS may lose $21 billion over the next five years due to identity theft alone -- one of the fastest growing areas of losses to the agency.
