The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) has joined forces with public safety notification provider Nixle to help law enforcement reunite missing children with their families. Since launching the venture, NCMEC has provided support to law enforcement in nearly 90 cases nationwide -- cases that may not have been brought to NCMEC's attention at all or as quickly without Nixle's participation.

While Pentagon contracts fell 29% in May 2014 compared to May 2013, Foster Fuels won an $853.2 million fuel contract from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). 2014 has seen U.S. defense contract spending drop five of its first six months from its 2013 numbers, but the Brookneal, VA-based firm garnered the third-largest contract awarded in May -- ahead of Lockheed and behind only Sikorsky Aircraft and Northrop Grumman.

ISACA has released a global study showing that one in five organizations (21 percent) have experienced an advanced persistent threat (APT) attack, and 66 percent believe it’s only a matter of time before their enterprise is hit by an APT. Yet only 15 percent of enterprises believe they are very prepared for an APT attack.

Coral Springs, FL-based CellAntenna Corporation, a provider of solutions to enhance and prohibit cell phone signals, has announced its latest product for jamming and managed access, the High Power Multiband Remote Unit (CA-MBRU-HP) providing 100 Watts per band combined to a single output port. The system can be used in prisons and government facilities that require control of cell phones due to security risks.

In the 2010 Quadrennial Review of Homeland Security, the department identified an objective regarding individuals and families. Specifically, it addressed the reduction of vulnerabilities and the enhancement of resources in order to minimize impact and fallout from attacks and disasters.

The reason seems to be obvious. However, this is not usually the approach of homeland security.  The practice of homeland security, to this day, has been a top-down approach, yet, if the system fails, it is the citizen or local responder left to deal with the fallout.

Covia Labs received the award for “Best Interoperable First Responder Communications” in the 2012 Awards Program for its “Alert & Respond” software platform and application that provides voice/data interoperability across a variety of platforms ranging from smart phones to police and fire department radios, embedded devices and drones. The top two markets for the company, according to CEO David Kahn, are the military and public safety.

TeleCommunication Systems (TCS), which entered its “Commercial Mobile Alerts System” in the 2012 Awards Program, was named a Finalist in the “Best Mass Notification Systems” category.
