Portland, OR-based Tripwire, a provider of advanced threat, security and compliance solutions, has announced the results of a survey of 215 attendees at the Black Hat USA 2014 security conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Tampa, FL-based Digital Watchdog (DW), a provider of digital recorders, surveillance cameras and related management software, has announced expanded support for integrated security applications by partnering with SureView Systems.

Port Townsend, WA-based Intellicheck Mobilisa, a provider of identity solutions and wireless security systems, has been awarded a $102K contract to provide its TWIC Plus IM2610 identification card readers to Watco Greens Port Terminal in Houston, TX. The port is operated by Watco Companies.

The new contract is for the TWIC Plus readers and an onsite server with TWIC registration module. The readers will provide TWIC card authentication and driver’s license reading capability, as well as printed visitor and vehicle passes.

A-T Solutions, a provider of counterterrorism based in Vienna, VA, has announced the launch of its new Data Collection Toolkit (DCT) and release of a white paper titled “Top Three Ways In-Field Data Collection Helps Achieve Urgent Objectives,” which details the benefits and value of mobile-capable data collection tools for federal agencies whose missions involve public safety, national defense, counterterrorism, homeland security, criminal investigations, and disaster and emergency management.

Southborough, MA-based Brainwave Science -- a company that has developed and modernized Brain Fingerprinting technology to fulfill a need to prevent disasters, deliver truth and justice for governments, national security agencies, law enforcement, corporations and individuals today announced that it has been awarded a contract to train and implement Brain Fingerprinting Technology to police in Florida State in June 2014.

Mountain View, CA-based SentinelOne, a provider of security that protects organizations against advanced threats and nation state malware, has announced SentinelOne EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) which detects, models, and predicts threat behavior to block attacks on any computing device, including servers and embedded systems. SentinelOne tracks each newly-created process on a machine through its lifecycle using execution inspection technology to prevent malware from evading detection.

Viscount Systems, a provider of IT-based access control software and services, has announced that its Freedom Access Control security solution has been approved as a fully-compliant FICAM solution under the program’s Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) 13.02 topology. Successful completion of FICAM testing ensures Freedom meets the security and interoperability requirements outlined within the U.S Government’s FICAM testing process.

Rockville, MD-based Emergent BioSolutions Inc. has announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has exercised contract options for the supply of Vaccinia Immune Globulin Intravenous (VIGIV) into the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). VIGIV is a therapeutic licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of complications due to smallpox vaccination.

Commentary and Opinions

With an alleged ringleader now in U.S. custody, investigative scrutiny here on Capitol Hill is zooming in tighter on the September 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The outcome of this probe may even have an effect on who is ultimately selected as the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.

The American Civil Liberties Union has applauded the DHS’s announcement that it has finalized its Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Standards for immigration detention facilities.

Public/private partnerships are critical to the success of government operations that provide essential services and benefits. Such partnerships can help agencies reduce costs, simplify operations, and are easily scalable at times of increased and decreased need. Whether motivated by a natural disaster, terrorism, or an interruption caused by legislative shortfall, successful public/private partnerships can provide business continuity and resilience.

The time has come to re-think embassy security. The Department of State recently called for a “more serious and sustained commitment from Congress” to address security deficiencies at high-risk posts around the world, in the wake of last year's attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the death of four people, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.   

The cost of healthcare in the U.S. continues to soar year after year. The problem is not a result of idleness or the lack of technology, but of not addressing the core problem of patient identity.
