Corporate News: Ioimage, EVT integrate video security solutions

EVT,a provider of video management software, and ioimage, a pioneer of intelligent video appliances, announced that they have completed the integration of their video security solutions. Under this partnership, EVT’s open architecture video management software now supports ioimage’s intelligent video encoders and IP cameras. The collaboration will allow ioimage cameras to be seamlessly operated from within the management framework and client interface of EVT’s Vertex video management and network video recording solution for medium and large-scale surveillance deployments.
Corporate News: Bosch acquires Extreme CCTV in cash buy-out

Robert Bosch GmbH, the German technology giant and parent company of Bosch Security Systems, Inc., has acquired Extreme CCTV Inc., of Burnaby, Canada, for approximately $93 million. With this transaction, Bosch strengthened its security systems division, extending its activities in video surveillance by adding Extreme CCTV’s product lines, which embrace a full range of video surveillance products, including active infrared illuminators, integrated day/night cameras and license plate capture and recognition systems. Bosch, with 300 subsidiary and regional companies in more than 50 countries, posted sales of 46 billion euros ($69 billion) last year.

Feds to require common IT security settings

A committee of federal acquisition officials has issued a final rule that requires government agencies to insist on "common security configurations" whenever they buy information technology products.

The Software Assurance Forum for Excellence in Code (SAFECode), a non-profit IT think tank based in Arlington, VA, issued a member report outlining secure development methods and integrity controls successfully used to deliver high assurance systems to government. The best practices list suggests software developers should incorporate security training, secure source code handling, security testing and documentation in the software development process. "Software assurance is a vital component to ensuring the security of critical information technology resources," said Paul Kurtz, executive director of SAFECode. Organization members include Juniper Networks, Inc., Microsoft and Symantec Corp.

The new division will focus on meeting the requirements of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) recently developed by DHS. The Sipera Viper Lab, operated by Sipera Systems, of Richardson, TX, unveiled its Top 5 VOIP threat predictions, ranking what it sees as the threats with the greatest potential impact in 2008. The predictions include:
• Increasing numbers of denial of service (DoS) and distributed DoS attacks on VoIP networks,
• HTTP or other third party data services running on VoIP end-points will face increasing exploitation for eavesdropping and other attacks.
• Hackers will turn their attention and tools towards Microsoft OCS, taking advantage of its UC connections to public e-mail systems, to create botnets and launch attacks.
• Hackers will set up more IP PBXs for vishing/phishing exploits, especially targeting banking and credit accounts,
• VoIP attacks against service providers will escalate, with hackers using readily available (and anonymous) $20 SIM cards.

Corporate News: PIPS Technology forms license recognition consortium

ThePIPS Technology subsidiary of Federal Signal Corp.-Safety and Security Systems Group announced it was establishing an industry consortium to develop a data exchange protocol to enable interoperability and data sharing among various automatic license plate recognition systems on the market. By setting data exchange standards, the as yet unnamed consortium is expected to improve data mining and analysis capabilities across various vendor systems within the law enforcement community.
