Corporate News: QinetiQ - VeriTainer team to offer port radiation scanning

QinetiQ North America (QNA), of McLean, VA, has teamed with VeriTainer Corp. to provide its radiation scanning solution to ports around the globe. VeriTainer, based in Fremont, CA, developed the VeriSpreader, a crane-mounted device that scans containers in real-time for dangerous radiation as they are being loaded and unloaded from container ships. The teaming agreement addresses significant challenges associated with integrating scanning into trans-shipment and on-dock rail operations. It is expected to facilitate compliance with recent legislation signed by President Bush requiring 100 percent scanning of all containers inbound to the U.S. by 2012.

Fortress Technologies, of Tampa, FL, is integrating its Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)-certified security solutions into the National Guard’s nationwide Joint Incident Site Communications Capability (JISCC). Fortress was selected as the wireless security provider on that program, which is a deployable communications solution aiming to provide voice, video and data connectivity during emergency response or disaster recovery operations.

( 1 ) It is possible to detect "dirty bombs" with a video camera by measuring the amount of tell-tale gamma rays that turn up on the CCD sensor of a standard analog or digital video surveillance system.
