Rapid Response 6.08

The Department of Homeland Security decided to merge products from three different companies to offer an effective rapid-response scene monitoring solution for public safety organizations across the nation. The three companies – Cisco Systems, Panasonic and SightLogix – were selected for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP). The DHS CEDAP program is part of a coordinated effort to strengthen the nation's level of preparedness with pre-emptive and post-incident management security solutions for state and local jurisdictions. As part of the program, CEDAP will provide the SightLogix Rapid Deployment Surveillance Kit, along with Cisco's Video Surveillance Manager, which is a combination of their Media Server, Operations Manager and Virtual Matrix software, running on a portable Panasonic industrial strength, ruggedized ToughBook, as well as related training to eligible public safety organizations across the nation.

FACE RECOGNITION - Cognitec Systems, of Herndon, VA, was selected to provide face recognition technology for the new e-passport initiative launched by Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs. The biometric solution utilizes scanned passport applicant photos, processed to meet International Civil Aviation Organization specifications.

M&A - Command Information, a provider of next generation network services, announced it has acquired Idealogica, Inc., a privately held Virginia-based information security company. As part of the agreement, Command Information will acquire Idealogica’s staff, intellectual property, and government and commercial customer bases.

BODY ARMOR DONATION – OrthoSynetics, of Metairie, LA, a provider of business services to orthodontic and dental practices worldwide, announced today that its Community Relations Committee has donated body armor and additional state-of-the-art tactical equipment to the New Orleans Police Department. The company made the donation after it learned that the city’s financial shortfalls in the wake of Hurricane Katrina left the department in need of these supplies -- and left police officers at risk.
