Corporate News: Hefty bags for airport security: 10 million served

Pactiv Corp., of Lake Forest, IL, has given the traveling public a Christmas present of sorts: Free Hefty One-Zip one-quart slider bags. The Pactiv Hefty bags are provided at no charge at many of the nation’s major airports, enabling millions of Americans to comply with the Transportation Security Administration 3-1-1 carry-on guidelines for air travel. Those guidelines specify that liquid or gel toiletries must be stored comfortably in a one-quart size, clear plastic zip-top bag, no container holds more than 3 ounces and that there can only be one bag per passenger. Pactiv estimates over 10 million Hefty bags will be distributed this year.



EVIDENCE MANAGEMENT - TranTech, Inc., an IT solutions and services provider based in Alexandria, VA, celebrated its 18th birthday, harking on good numerical omens of that number cited by the company’s Vietnamese-born president, TiTi McNiell. TranTech products include integrated digital evidence management solutions produced by its subsidiary, MediaSolv Corp.



TOP SECRET - The National Security Agency has certified the Sectera vIPer Phone, produced by General Dynamics C4 Systems, to protect classified communications via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks at the Top Secret level and below.



EXPLOSIVES DETECTION - Valley Forge Composite Technologies, Inc., of Covington, KY, announced it has secured a facility designated for demonstration and distribution of its next-generation explosives detection systems. This is expected to include the company’s Thor LVX, advanced explosives detection system, currently under development. Thor LVX promises the capability of penetrating all shielding to detect and identify explosives, nuclear material, narcotics and chemical and biological agents using photonuclear gamma ray technology.



SAFETY ACT - The Department of Homeland Security has granted Syagen Technology, Inc., of Tustin, CA, with testing and evaluation status under the Support Antiterrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies SAFETY) Act.



BOMB CAR PLANT - Force Protection Inc., of Ladson, SC, announced the dedication of its 430,000 square foot Roxboro, NC, manufacturing facility. The $31 million plant will produce the company’s Cheetah bomb-resistant vehicle.



DHS MENTORING - ICF International, of Fairfax, VA, known for the technology solutions it develops for clients in the defense and emergency management fields, has entered the DHS Mentor Protégé Program, partnering with Log-In Systems, Inc. Log-In is a service-disabled, veteran-owned firm offering strategic planning, logistics support and transitional management services.
