Contracts: DHS awards General Dynamics $22 million NCC support contract

The Department of Homeland Security awarded General Dynamics a task order to provide 24/7 watch-officer, technical, analytical and liaison support to its National Coordinating Center. The award has a maximum potential value of $21.8 million over 50 months if all options are exercised. Under the task order, General Dynamics will provide the NCC with information assurance analysis and information system support. Membership in the NCC, an industry-government operations center designed to maintain the national telecommunications grid under all conditions, includes nine federal government agencies and 43 private corporations in communications, defense and IT sectors.

Contracts: Quatrotec nets multi-airport baggage screening contracts

Quatrotec, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alien Technology Corp., of Morgan Hill, CA, announced it holds contracts to handle a variety of security tasks at 28 major U.S. airports, including JFK International in New York, San Francisco Airport, and Miami International Airport. Most contracts were awarded by the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, and have a combined value of $12 million. Tasks performed include security systems installation, checkpoint reconfiguration and baggage and air cargo screening.

Contracts: Tauri wins $38 million DHS chem-bio award

The Tauri Group, of Alexandria, VA, was selected to provide systems engineering and technical assistance support for the Chemical and Biological Early Detection (CBED) program in the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Health Affairs. The contract covers a 39-month period and is valued at $38 million. Tauri will help realize CBED’s operational strategy to integrate DHS capabilities, detect and respond to chemical and biological terrorism, ensure system interoperability and provide consistent consequence management guidance.

Contracts: Reveal Imaging wins $2.5 M baggage screening technology development contract

The Department of Homeland Security has awarded Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., of Bedford, MA, a $2.5 million contract to develop a baggage screening system which offers significantly reduced false alarms. The 24-month contract, issued by the Technical Support Working Group, calls for Reveal Imaging to develop a hardware and software platform, incorporating quality enhancements and a new carbon nanotube X-ray source for Computed Tomography (CT)-based explosive detection systems.

Contracts: DHS awards tactical infrastructure contracts

December 3rd, 2007

The Department of Homeland Security awarded contracts to three companies -- Environmental Chemical Corp. of Burlingame, CA; Kiewit Texas Construction, LP, of Fort Worth, TX; and Weston Solutions of Houston, TX -- to construct structures and facilities related to DHS’s tactical infrastructure program, primarily in the Laredo (TX) Sector of the Southwestern Region. The combined contract award amount was $172 million.

Contracts: State Dept. buys Laser Dazzlers to spotlight targets

The U.S. State Department plans to buy 26 Compact High Powered "Laser Dazzlers" from Quick Services, LLC, of Woodbridge, VA, which has exclusive rights to distribute in the U.S. the laser product manufactured by LE Systems, of East Hartford, CT. The Dazzler is designed for applications "where subject vision impairment must be achieved at distance, in very bright ambient conditions including clear sunny daylight," says LE Systems.

DARPA envisions long-range "Rapid Eye" surveillance system

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is hoping to develop a state-of-the-art long-range unmanned surveillance and intelligence aircraft that could be carried by rocket from a launching pad in the U.S. to any location in the world, where it could gather vital imagery while loitering overhead for up to seven hours.

IG skeptical about Alaska Native company’s CBP maintenance contract

Chenega Technology Services Corp. was awarded a sole source small business set-aside contract worth $475 million by Customs and Border Protection to maintain X-ray equipment and metal detectors nationwide because the company is considered an "Alaska Native Corporation," but the award was made inappropriately by CBP and Chenega has not performed enough of the actual work itself.
