Contracts: CryptoMetrics deploys face recognition-based wanted person detection system in Abu Dhabi

Tuckahoe, NY-based CryptoMetrics, Inc., a provider of asset protection systems, has signed a contract with the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to deploy a face recognition-based wanted person detection system at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The airport installation represents the first phase of an anticipated nation-wide deployment of the system at all points of entry to the UAE. This deployment makes the UAE the first country to implement a critical infrastructure protection and warning system using facial recognition on a comprehensive national basis, according to a company statement. Financial terms of the contract between the UAE’s Ministry of Interior and CryptoMetrics were not disclosed.

TSA wants The Ad Council to polish the image of its screeners

In an effort to "shape the public attitude toward TSA screening personnel," the Transportation Security Administration is planning to award a sole source $1.3 million contract to the nonprofit organization The Ad Council Inc., to help raise the level of public awareness about security and TSA’s critical role in protecting it.

The city of Alcorcon, a Madrid suburb with a 165,000 population, has added video analytics from Ioimage, of Herzliya, Israel, to assist local law enforcement in handling the large amounts of video footage taken by surveillance cameras that cover the 20-square-mile perimeter of the city.

AMA to organize Third National Congress on Health System Readiness

The Department of Health and Human Services will award a contract to the Chicago-based American Medical Association (AMA), so that it can plan and convene the Third National Congress on Health System Readiness, intended to improve the capacity of hospitals and communities across the country to prepare for public health emergencies.

Contracts: Siemen’s to install AMAG’s security management system at Anchorage Intl. Airport

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska is set to get Torrance, CA-based AMAG Technology’s Symmetry Homeland Security Management System, which will be installed by Buffalo Grove, IL- based Siemens Building Technologies. Symmetry Homeland is AMAG’s government-approved security management system, and it will be integrated at Anchorage International with the airport’s existing Verint video management system and an intercom system from Zenitel’s StentoFon brand.

Contracts: Alliant Awarded $78 million contract to "missionize" three CBP maritime patrol aircraft

Minneapolis-based Alliant Techsystems has been awarded a contract by the Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Protection (CBP) unit to retrofit three additional aircraft with Alliant 's proprietary integrated Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance system. The three Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) will be based at various locations in the U.S. and used by CBP's Air and Marine Operations to monitor drug trafficking and illegal immigration. They will also be available to perform search and rescue missions when required. These will be the fifth, sixth and seventh aircraft Alliant delivers to the CBP in support of its border patrol mission. According to the company, Alliant 's sensor suite allows the MPA aircraft to simultaneously detect numerous activities of interest at substantial stand-off range. Flight station operators using the arrays of sensors, displays and data links can transmit critical data and intelligence instantaneously to ground and airborne control centers to assist in the interception and investigation of vehicles, aircraft or persons of interest. The aircraft also records the data and imagery, which can subsequently be used for intelligence, investigation and prosecution. All of the work will be performed at Alliant 's Fort Worth, TX, facility.

Air Force extends four base protection contracts

The U.S. Air Force has decided to extend four existing security contracts by seven months each, without competitive bidding, to enable the four incumbent vendors to continue providing base security installations for Air Force personnel in Southwest Asia and around the world.

The four contractors, Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, of Carson, CA; L-3 Communications, Government Services Inc., of Chantilly, VA; ECSI International, Inc. of Clifton, NJ; and Abacus Technology, of Chevy Chase, MD, have been providing sensors, radars, thermal imagers, integrated command and control equipment and various support services under the existing contract, which would have expired in August 2008, but will now be extended to April 2009.

Contracts: HSCC wins contracts to modernize Oak Ridge Natl. Lab

Arlington, VA-based Homeland Security Capital Corp’s environmental remediation division, Safety and Ecology Corp., has been awarded a total of eight contracts by UT-Batelle, a non-profit established by the Department of Energy for the purpose of managing and operating the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The contracts, including more than $300,000 awarded in July 2008 for the demolition of facilities, are intended for the general purpose of "modernizing" ORNL, the well-known science and technology national laboratory located near Knoxville, TN. The total value of the eight contracts, which have been awarded over the past year, is nearly $1 million, according to an HSCC statement.
