Woburn, MA-based U.S. Genomics will continue development and testing of its biological sensor to detect airborne pathogens using single-molecule DNA mapping technology under a $9.1 million Phase IIIX contract awarded by DHS’s Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate. "The resources provided under the contract will allow us to perform extensive operational testing and to advance the capabilities of our prototype systems," CEO John Canepa said in a statement. That system will "rapidly detect multiple bacterial pathogens, toxins and viruses simultaneously in an environmental sample using a single reagent set," according to Canepa.

Ashburn, VA-based Telos Corp has won a one-year, $1 million contract from the Federal Aviation Administration Academy’s Distance Learning branch. The contract calls for Telos to provide training hardware and software for the agency’s computer-based-instruction (CBI) program and to install CBI equipment at FAA offices in the U.S. and its territories. While the contract is a new award, it continues support functions Telos has performed for the FAA for the past decade, according to a company statement. The FAA’s CBI learning centers offer more than 350 courses using CD, DVD and Web-based technology.

Dulles, VA-based ODIN Technologies, which specializes in radio frequency identification (RFID) deployments and automation software, has been chosen as an RFID-deployment partner for the $62 million DHS Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) contract awarded to Blue Bell, PA-based Unisys this past January. The Customs and Border Protection contract features RFID, combined with license plate recognition technology, as part of the border-crossing identification-verification process. WHTI specifies that RFID will be deployed at more than 300 border crossing lanes which inspect and process travelers into the United States from Canada and Mexico.
