Radiation Detection

The DHS Domestic Nuclear Detection Office has awarded Waltham, MA-based Raytheon Co.,. a phase 2 contract to continue development of a stand-off radiation detection system that can determine the type and location of radiation sources at much greater distances than current technologies. Phase 2, an eight-month contract for $4.7 million, involves engineering a prototype design. The entire four-phase development program is worth a potential $9.9 million if all four options are exercised.

Port of Corpus Christi, TX, officials have selected Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. to upgrade the capabilities of the video surveillance system now protecting port operations. When completed, the port of Corpus Christi will host the largest Siemens Siveillance SiteIQ deployment to date and use it to manage one of the largest video analytics-based surveillance systems in the U.S. According to Siemens managers, the project will deploy more than 80 additional cameras to the existing system’s 130-camera network, which currently monitors more than 6,700 ships and barges and nearly 90 million tons of cargo annually. To keep an intelligent eye on all of this, the port system’s expansion includes a software migration to Siveillance SitelQ version 3.2, which combines situational analysis, decision-making and command and control functionality into one interface. The expansion’s design phase is underway and installation and commissioning are scheduled for completion in late 2008.

ICOP Digital, Inc., of Lenexa, KS, will supply its ICOP Model 20/20-W digital in-car video system to an undisclosed Tennessee city’s police department and an undisclosed Tennessee county’s sheriff’s office. According to the company, these two agencies operate more than 800 patrol cars. The ICOP system delivers live streaming video to and from first responder vehicles and headquarters. After the initial purchase order was issued by the Tennessee city, ICOP shipped a total of 10 units to the agencies. Following the determination of logistical protocols for installation and officer training, phased fleet deployment of the ICOP Model 20/20-W in both agencies' patrol fleets is expected to commence, as funding becomes available.
