LaserCard Corp., of Mountain View, CA, has received a purchase order from the Department of Homeland Security to supply a next generation card encoding solution for the agency’s Permanent Resident Card ("Green Card") Program. Under the terms of the purchase order, LaserCard will supply 40 encoders, associated software and services. The new solution will replace "Green Card" personalization equipment which is more than a decade old. The encoders and software, valued at $170,000, are expected to be delivered over the next six months.

Iomai Corp., of Gaithersburg, MD, announced it will receive a cost-reimbursement grant for up to $943,856 from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) to perform pre-clinical work on a patch-based version of the anthrax vaccine. Under the one-year grant, Iomai scientists will use vaccine antigen developed by UK-based Avecia Biologics Ltd., applying Iomai's technology in an effort to formulate a dry version of the antigen that can be combined with an Iomai adjuvant on a needle-free patch. Iomai will then evaluate the stability of the patch to determine whether it can be stored and shipped at room temperature.
