Contracts: UC-San Diego wins SPAWAR grant to develop cyber protection technology

The U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (popularly known as SPAWAR) has awarded the University of California – San Diego a contract to develop technology to protect the nation’s cyber infrastructure, including the Internet and other critical infrastructures that depend on computer systems for their missions. The research and development services will, in turn, be provided to the Department of Homeland Security. The 36-month contract, which includes one six-month option, is valued at $1.6 million.



The Transportation Security Administration intends to award a single source contract to MicroStrategy Services Corp., of McLean, VA, for technical support and maintenance of its business intelligence software, which is currently the platform on which TSA's Performance Management Information System (PMIS) platform is built. TSA does not plan to replace its current platform. TSA seeks only to receive maintenance and support of the software constituting the current platform. TSA intends to award a contract, including a base year and options, to provide continued support for its PMIS platform. The estimated acquisition cost is $275,000 per year.



BIO-key International, Inc., of Wall, NJ, , today announced the award of a contract from the Shelbyville, IN, police department for the department's first mobile data system. Under this contract, Shelbyville police will be able to use BIO-key’s MobileCop software, allowing officers on the road to have instantaneous access from in-car laptops to state and federal law enforcement and motor vehicle databases. MobileCop is expected to increase the total number of hours officers are on the street and on patrol by as much as five percent.



The DHS Science & Technology (S&T) directorate has provided a contract to Syagen Technology Inc., of Tustin, CA, to implement specific enhancements to their Guardian Explosives Trace Portal (ETP). This work will further expand the Guardian's explosives detection capabilities and provide additional operational features to improve the usability of the ETP for aviation security checkpoints and other security venues.
