Contracts: DHS taps Implant Sciences for explosives sampler development

The Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology directorate announced the award of a six-month $100,000 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBOIR) contract to Implant Sciences Corp., of Wakefield, MA, to develop a handheld trace explosives sampler. A company spokesman said Implant Sciences would use its proprietary vortex collection technology in the development of the sampling device to augment the process of collecting samples used in detecting and identifying a range of explosives materials.



The U.S. Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Center plans to issue a contract to Indiana University to develop novel "next generation" technology for the detection of chem/bio agents using IMS/MS/DESI hybrid technology. A spokesman said the Navy plans to issue a cost reimbursement type R&D contract, covering a one-year period of performance.



Electronic Sensor Technology, of Newbury Park, CA, was awarded an order for four xNose Model 4300 explosive detection systems by Kuwait’s Petroleum Services Co., WLL. The order contributed to the company’s significant rise in first quarter 2008 revenues.



The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, of Glynco, GA, has awarded a contract valued at just under $400,000 to Off Road Training Inc., of Jamaica, VA, to provide an advanced anti-terrorism/mobility driving course at the training center.



Genesis Enterprises, of Corte Madera, CA, won a reverse order bid to supply the Border Patrol with 2,250 Smith & Wesson Model 100 nickel handcuffs, The contract is valued at $38,397.40.
