Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the unit of DHS responsible for guarding all international airports, seaports and land border entry points in the U.S., wants to know the location of every commercial passenger plane and every cargo-carrying aircraft, anywhere in the world, "in a near real time environment."

This huge amount of "flight and schedule data" would allow CBP to plan "how to incorporate the latest and most complete data sets available into their daily workflow," said a special notice posted online by CBP on February 13.

CBP also wants to obtain "near real time" information about any changes to worldwide flight schedules (including delays and cancellations), aircraft equipment changes, and the actual departure and arrival times for all flights.

CBP is looking for commercial vendors who could supply on a daily basis detailed information, including carrier, flight number, frequency of service, origin city and airport, destination city and airport, intermediate connections, aircraft type, as well as seat and freight capacities. It is also interested in obtaining initial pricing data for this service.

Potential vendors can contact , contract specialist, at 317-614-4580, by February 29.
