The FBI is hiring

In what it calls "one of the largest hiring blitzes" in its history, the Federal Bureau of Investigation intends to add more than 2,100 staff employees and 850 special agents to its rolls.

And you may not have to relocate to become a G-Man either. According to an FBI statement announcing the big jobs push, openings are available in "virtually every field office" and at headquarters in Washington, DC.

GSN: Government Security News broke the story on Oct. 16 that the Port of Los Angeles had procured a sophisticated cargo scanning X-ray system built in the People’s Republic of China, and that the system will be paid for with a port security grant from DHS.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, seeks information regarding contractors who can provide security engineering services. Potential providers should have experience in performing design and analysis services related to blast loads on structures and structural elements, progressive collapse, vulnerability assessments to meet security engineering standards with reduced standoff distances, and ammunition and explosive safety standards. DHS seeks terrorist-blog info collectors

The Department of Homeland Security seeks information and industry feedback regarding the collection of data from Internet blogs and message boards that indicate intent to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the U.S. According to the DHS solicitation, “blogging and message boards have played a substantial role in allowing communication among those who would do the United States harm. In order to better counter the use of IEDs, it is necessary to identify speech acts in near to real-time which proceed [sic] the decision by terrorists to use an IED.” Response deadline is Nov. 28, 2008. DoE seeks sources for subcontracted telecommunications services

The Department of Energy seeks sources of subcontracted telecommunications services for National Security Technologies (NSTec), its contractor, which manages operations at the Nevada Test Site (NTS) and its related facilities and laboratories. While more than two-thirds of the NSTec's employees work in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas or at the NTS (located 65 miles north of Las Vegas), NSTec also has remote offices in Livermore, CA; Los Alamos, NM; Santa Barbara, CA; and Andrews AFB, MD. The purpose of the subcontract is to manage, maintain and upgrade the current telecommunications infrastructure, while meeting all NSTec security restrictions and safety requirements. The Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing seeks sources of and information regarding password management software. The software will need to be able to reset CA TopSecret Version 8.0 passwords; automatically create a tracking ticket in Remedy Tracking System Version 7.0 (Helpdesk System); operate on a server running Windows Server 2003 operating system; have the ability to display an Unlock Password button (or something similar) on the Windows logon screen; be able to reset Oracle passwords, MS SQL passwords; be able to unlock an Active Directory password, unlock a CA TopSecret Version 8.0 password, unlock an Oracle password, unlock an MS SQL password; accept personal computers (PCs) running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, and must at a minimum be able to reset Active Directory passwords, among other requirements. Navy floats E-2C Hawkeye 2000 communications RFI

The U.S. Navy’s Air Systems Command requests information to identify potential sources of communications systems to replace the existing radio communications set and associated equipment in the E-2C Hawkeye 2000 aircraft. Data operation and voice communication may be conducted concurrently, or the high-frequency radios may be used for voice communication exclusively, at the sacrifice of HF-radio data transmission and reception. Navy looking to sail the skies

The U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command requests information from potential contractors that would develop, test, integrate, produce, field and support Lighter Than Air (LTA) platforms/systems. The Navy requires that LTA unmanned, or optionally manned, systems have the potential to provide persistent intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and communications (ISRC) support, as well as manned logistical support for tactical-level maneuvers decisions and unit-level low-altitude air defense/force protection for naval ships and Marine Corps land forces. An ISCRC system may include multiple air vehicles, one ground control station, multi-mission payloads, and associated launch, recovery and support equipment, with a 5,000 mile radius of action. A logistics system may include platforms with trans-global range (i.e., 2,000 mile radius of action) and payloads measuring up to 500 tons. Response deadline is Oct. 30, 2008.
