‘PaxBag’ program to search for nuke material on airline passengers or in baggage

The DHS is planning a pilot program that will scan commercial airline passengers traveling through an international airport in the U.S. to determine if they are carrying any illegal radiological or nuclear materials – which could be used in a nuclear weapon or a dirty bomb -- on their bodies or in their baggage.
SCM Microsystems to merge with Hirsch Electronics

SCM Microsystems, Inc., a German supplier of smart card and digital media readers, and Hirsch Electronics Corp., of Santa Ana, CA, a pioneer in the electronic access control market, announced on Dec. 11 that they intend to merge.
Rapiscan's stationary 3-D baggage screener to undergo testing by TSA

A single RTT80 3-D X-ray machine, which scans baggage at an airport in a stationary position, rather than revolving around the luggage, has been sold to TSA and will be tested in an operational environment at TSA's new Technology Security Integration Center at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC.
Morgan Keegan initiates its coverage of Axsys with a 'Market Perform'

Morgan Keegan & Co., the Tennessee-based investment bank, has initiated equity coverage of Axsys Technologies, a provider of optical technology for the homeland security and defense markets, with a "Market Perform" rating. That means Morgan Keegan expects Axsys to perform in line with the S&P 500 over the next six months.

FBI warns against telephone 'vishing' attacks

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has issued a warning to telephone users that a vulnerability in Asterisk software, which is used to integrate PBX telephone devices to Voice Over Internet Telephony (VoIP) systems, can enable cyber criminals to unleash thousands of “vishing” phone calls per hour.
DHS tests streaming video software to send ‘live’ images to PDAs

DHS is testing streaming video software that would enable law enforcement agents and first responders to capture unfolding events in real-time on their handheld PDAs, and to share those “live” video images with other personnel on the street as well as their command posts.
