CBP arrests subject of "America's Most Wanted" TV show at border crossing

A 23-year-old man who was wanted by the FBI for alleged homicide, kidnapping, battery and escape – and is featured on the Web site of the TV show "America's Most Wanted" – was apprehended by Customs and Border Protection as he walked through the port of entry in San Ysidro, CA, on Feb. 14 at about 10:15 PM.

CBP might monitor motorists in Canada approaching U.S. border

In order to anticipate traffic congestion at various land entry points on the U.S.-Canadian border, Customs and Border Protection is thinking of installing “passive” monitoring systems -- perhaps radar, license plate readers, magnetic loops in the roadway or Bluetooth communications systems -- that could watch vehicles in Canada approaching the border from approximately 10 miles away.

Because it expects 10,000 buses carrying spectators to the inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 20, the District of Columbia is planning to close portions of three different interstate highways that run through the District, and convert those roadways into parking areas for many of those buses.

Two leading environmental groups, the Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace, have written a letter to the Secret Service warning about the potential danger of a catastrophic terrorist attack on a hazardous chemical facility along the East Coast rail corridor while Barack Obama and Joe Biden make a highly-publicized pre-inaugural whistle-stop train trip to Washington, DC, on Jan. 17.

Ameristar Fence to exhibit full range of products at Fencetech show in January

Ameristar Fence Products, the Tulsa, OK-based manufacturer of ornamental fence products, will display a full range of products at the upcoming Fencetech show, which will take place in New Orleans, LA, on January 14-16, 2009. The products displayed will range from sophisticated perimeter security systems used by federal and state governments to residential fencing, according to Barry Willingham, Ameristar's vice president of security.

Manufacturers of emergency response radio systems that ostensibly comply with Project 25 technical standards laid out by DHS and the National Institute of Standards and Technology will be asked to submit a "Supplier's Declaration of Compliance" and a summary test report to support their claims.
