CBP buys anthrax detectors from Universal Detection Technology

Anthrax detector - Beverly Hills, CA-based Universal Detection Technology (UNDT) has received a purchase order from Customs and Border Protection's air and marine operations division for its anthrax detection equipment.
According to the company, the detection equipment is designed to return results in as little as three minutes.

Person-portable gas chromatograph mass spectrometer

Chemical ID - Syracuse, NY- based INFICON has introduced the Hapsite ER, its next generation of person-portable gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC/MS) for on-site investigation and analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air, water and soil at parts per trillion (ppt) for most substances or chemicals under analysis.
Hapsite is designed for on-site pollution investigations, site remediation studies or process monitoring and control, disaster scene investigation and mitigation, and security applications.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has method to detect melamine contamination

Food contamination detector - San Jose, CA-based Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has developed a method to detect melamine and cyanuric acid in food.
Melamine, an industrial chemical used in the manufacturing of plastics, flame retardants and other products, was the focus of a recent Chinese infant formula scandal, in which children were sickened, injured and in some cases died from consuming tainted baby food.
Cyanuric acid was one of the substances in an earlier Chinese contamination scandal, in which pet food that originated in China was sickening and in some cases killing animals that had eaten it.

Aussie stadium gets Avigilon HD surveillance

Contract - A high-definition surveillance system provided by Vancouver, BC-based Avigilon has been deployed in Canberra Stadium, located in Australia’s capital city. The installation was an upgrade from an existing analog system.
The new Avigilon HD system includes 11 Avigilon cameras, ranging from four to 16 megapixels. Security officials manage the new system using Avigilon Control Center network video management software.

Vid surveillance semiconductors a $2 billion market by 2012, says Multimedia Intelligence

Market forecast - The video surveillance semiconductor market will pass $2 billion by 2012, while the market for IP/networked video surveillance cameras grew almost 50 percent last year, to approach $500 million worldwide, according to the results of a study conducted by Scottsdale, AZ-based MultiMedia Intelligence (MI).
The study, released in conjunction with the ISC East trade show, also found that traditional embedded DVRs still dominate the overall video surveillance storage market, accounting for 62 percent of the nearly $2 billion DVR market last year.

Mobotix IP cameras watching Anchorage Airport fuel facility

Airport security - The Mobotix IP video surveillance system has been installed at Anchorage International Airport's fuel facility.
Weather-resistant cameras from the Kaiserslautern, Germany-based company now will observe both the perimeter of the facility and inside the pump stations, where two four-million-gallon fuel storage tanks were constructed this year.

SCM Microsystems to merge with Hirsch Electronics

DHS may need a vendor to collect BioWatch air samples in DC area

The DHS Office of Health Affairs wants to identify prospective vendors who could collect air samples on a daily basis from locations in the National Capital Region (NCR), Baltimore, MD, and Richmond, VA, as part of the department’s ongoing BioWatch monitoring program.
