People: FBI names Hassell new lab director

Chris Hassell has been named the new FBI Laboratory Director, replacing Joseph DiZinno, who recently retired. Dr. Hassell comes to the FBI from the Oklahoma State University Multispectral Laboratories (UML), where he led research, development, testing and evaluation. He previously served as assistant vice president for science and technology at Applied Marine Technologies Inc. The FBI Laboratory which he now heads, located in Quantico, VA, employs more than 600 scientists performing a wide array of forensic services for the law enforcement and intelligence communities worldwide.



The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Paul Schneider to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. In this position, he will have responsibility for leading the department's transition into a new administration next year.



PSA Security Network, the world’s largest electronic security cooperative, announced the election of Mike Tiffin, vice president of Henry Brother Electronics, as Northeast region director for PSA’s board of directors.



Mayer Brown LLP partner Raj De has been asked to serve as General Counsel to the newly-established Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism. He previously served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (generally known as the "9/11 Commission".) The WMD panel, which is headed by former Senator Bob Graham of Florida and former Senator Jim Talent of Missouri, was established by Congress to assess current activities, initiatives and programs to prevent WMD proliferation and terrorism, and to provide the next Administration and Congress with a clear and comprehensive strategy with concrete recommendations.
