Uncle Sam to gather GPS navigation data for the world

The database should also contain information about telecommunications facilities, public venues, land uses, hydrography data and points of interest, according to a notice released March 21 by the NGA.
Data for all countries should be accurate within 50 meters, and for the "large scale coverage" that would be required for at least 65 of those countries, the accuracy should be within 15 meters.
All mapping data must meet the "metadata standard" established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee, which sets up agreed-upon formats for the presentation of required information.
Such information could have military, development, disaster response and other applications.
