DHS IG to harden network with IBM’s Internet Scanner

"Internet Scanner minimizes the risk by identifying the security holes, or vulnerabilities, in the network to protect them before an attack occurs," explained a presolicitation notice posted by the Treasury Department, which is handling the acquisition on behalf of DHS.
The IBM software contains a vulnerability catalog that guides users to the root cause of a vulnerability, detailed descriptions of that vulnerability, remediation steps and sources of additional information.
The software’e "penetration security toolkit" includes:
• An SQL injector;
• A cookie cruncher to analyze the strength of cookies to avoid session hijacking;
• A "Regex" editor to test and build regular expressions;
• A "Web Fuzzer" to identify buffer overflows;
• A "WebBrute" to test the strength of login forms.
"Internet Scanner probes operating systems, routers/switches, mail servers, Web servers, firewalls and applications -- identifying vulnerabilities so that you can address them before hackers access and take control of systems," says a fact sheet posted online by Armonk, NY-based IBM.
