New Products: Smiths offers new chemical identifier to detect 32,000 substances

Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business, Smiths Group, launched a new portable chemical identifier specially designed for diverse field operations requiring quick and easy identification of unknown solids or liquids. The HazMatID Ranger is based on the company’s HazMatID product, a field-based solid and liquid identifier widely used by military and civil responders. The HazMatID Ranger library allows responders to identify more than 32,000 suspicious white powders, WMDs, explosives, common and toxic chemicals. The system is also supported by ReachBack 24/7/365 technical assistance to aid responders with spectral interpretation in the field.



MAC PROTECTION - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., of Redwood City, CA, announced the release of its Check Point Full Disk Encryption for Mac, which it claims is the industry’s first full disk encryption solution with pre-boot authentication to support the Mac OS. Check Point Full Disk Encryption now supports all major laptop and desktop operating systems, including Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and versions 10.4.5 through 10.11 Tiger.



VEIN RECOGNITION - AABACS Group Inc., of College Point, NY, announced that it will be offering its customers a new nanotechnology-based biometric finger vein recognition system, initially developed by its Japanese joint venture partner, Fit Design Systems, Inc. The system is designed for use at airports, marine terminals, nuclear power plants, military bases and other security conscious installations.
