TrellisWare displays newest tactical radio at SOFIC

TAMPA. May 16, 2017 The TW-950 TSM Shadow™ is the newest tactical radio for networking solutions by TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. (http://www.trellisware.com), providing expanded frequency ranges, higher throughput for video, and full interoperability with compatible devices. The TSM Shadow radio is being shown at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) at the Tampa Convention Center (Booth #636).

TSM Shadow provides unparalleled performance powered by TrellisWare’s TSM-X™ waveform. Because TSM Shadow runs the full TSM-X waveform, it compliments interoperability with the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Mobile Ad-hoc Networking (MANET) for SOF Tactical Communications (STC) radios, including the STC Next Generation Handheld (NGHH).

Compared to previous generations of the TSM™ waveform, TSM-X doubles the throughput for single hop traffic and nearly quadruples throughput for multi-hop traffic and multi-cast streaming of multiple High Definition (HD) videos. The expanded frequency coverage includes the UHF, L, and S bands in a single radio. The flexible bandwidth of TSM-X is configurable from 1.2 to 40 MHz, and supports simultaneous voice, Position Location Information (PLI), and data for networks of over 200 users.

In addition, TrellisWare has a new single board radio module and third party integration program for enabling new devices and platforms to be part of the ever-expanding TSM-X network.

“At TrellisWare, we continue to push the boundaries of MANET technology, and we are excited to showcase our new TSM Shadow radio and new single board radio at SOFIC this year,” said Metin Bayram, the General Manager of TrellisWare. “We look forward to working with our partners in government and industry to see the TSM-X network continue to expand with new capabilities to meet the ever-changing challenges faced by our customers today.”

Revision Military unveils helmet designed especially for special operations forces

ESSEX JUNCTION, VT May 16, 2017 Designed and built in conjunction with Special Operations Forces (SOF) users, Revision Military’s new Caiman Head System reinforces the Company’s standing as the world leader in integrated head protection systems. The Caiman Head System is a true full-spectrum special operations helmet solution, and will be commercially available in stages, starting with the Caiman Carbon Bump Helmet System. The Caiman Carbon Bump System—including carbon bump helmet, a streamlined rail system, and an innovative liner and suspension system—will be available for sale at the end of July.

“This new head system, built from the ground up and tailored to the feedback and specialized needs of SOF users, epitomizes Revision’s forward-thinking, holistic mindset,” said Jonathan Blanshay, CEO, Revision Military. “Revision upended traditional helmet development for the Family of Tactical Headborne Systems (FTHS) project. The project management team put in untold legwork, going to great lengths to engage key SOF contacts and stakeholders directly, and absorbing unfiltered, informed feedback. This collaborative, iterative process allowed the team to eliminate guesswork and address SOF user demands in real time. Caiman is not a head system created in a vacuum; the contributions from SOF operators are undeniable.”

Optimized for coastal, riverine, maritime, high-altitude, freefall, and ground maneuvers, the Batlskin Caiman Helmet System is designed to withstand an extreme range of environmental conditions--—tropic or arctic, day or night, arid desert or open ocean, and beyond. Revision has also developed a new set of accessories that will enhance this cutting-edge, lightweight helmet for boat, vehicle, HALO/HAHO, mountain, river, and direct action missions. The Caiman system is the first carbon bump helmet in the industry that can be ballistically-enabled with add-on armor appliques for ballistic, blunt-force, blast-force, and fragmentation protection during specialized operations. Skeletonization of all system components has significantly reduced the overall weight, emphasizing scalability and versatility for highly dynamic and unpredictable situations.

Providing a unique combination of agility, protection, adaptability, and integration, the Caiman system is ideal for SOF global operators, as well as law enforcement, paramilitary, and peacekeeping forces the world over. Revision’s Batlskin Caiman suite also includes a Ballistic Helmet System, and both the Carbon Bump System and the Ballistic Head Protection System have a series of accessories and components for mission-specific modularity. In total, the Caiman suite emphasizes scalability for use in a wide variety of specialized maneuvers. To give significance to the many facets of the full Caiman Head System, the suite will be rolled out in several phases. The Caiman Ballistic System and additional Caiman accessories will be available commercially in subsequent product rollout campaigns later this year and early in 2018.

Textron Systems lightweight weapons system passes tests against moving targets

TAMPA, FL May 15, 2017 SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES INDUSTRY CONFERENCE -- Textron Systems Weapon & Sensor Systems, a business of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), announced today the successful testing of the Fury® lightweight precision guided glide munition against moving targets at Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona. This test marks a significant milestone, as it marks the completion of the Fury weapon's development.

The Weapon & Sensor Systems team conducted 13 test flights for the Fury weapon, which accumulated to a total of 23.8 flight hours between captive carriage, survey flights and 10 weapon releases from unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Two tests were conducted from Textron Systems' own Shadow® Tactical UAS at an altitude of 8,000 feet and a 1.5 kilometer standoff against a moving target. Both munitions successfully impacted the target. These results demonstrate end-to-end testing of the Fury weapon and improve both system maturity and Technology Readiness Level (TRL).

"Based on the results achieved during Fury flight testing, we are pleased with the development progress of the Fury lightweight precision guided munition," says Weapon & Sensor Systems Senior Vice President & General Manager Brian Sinkiewicz.

The Fury weapon uses a common interface for rapid integration on multiple manned and unmanned platforms. The weapon's tri-mode fuzing – impact, height of burst and delay – further enables a single Fury to address a broad target set, ranging from static and moving light armored vehicles to small boats and dismounted personnel. Fury is guided by a GPS-aided inertial navigation system with a Semi-Active Laser terminal guidance, enabling engagement of moving targets.

Armored Vehicles Latin America exposition set for Mexico City next month

MEXICO CITY, May 12, 2017 Since its conception, Armoured Vehicles Latin America has provided an exciting platform for Armies, Marine Corps, and Police across nations to exchange ideas on the defence and security thinking that shapes the region.

Recent geopolitical changes have had a significant impact on security and defence within Latin America. For example, Mexican Armed Forces successfully recaptured its most notorious cartel commander; the Colombian government announced a peace deal with the FARC; a new administration has entered the White House; and the United Nations declared the end point for its mission in Haiti. These changes will inevitably influence the strategic decision-making of the regional military commands.

The 2017 Armoured Vehicles Latin America conference will bring together a diverse mix of armour specialists, procurement heads and military commanders to review these projects as well as outline their strategic objectives for the years ahead. Senior speakers this year include:

  • Dr Javier Oliva Posada, Profesor de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la UNAM
  • Brigadier General Salvador Orlando Montano, Commander, Logistics and Army Support Command, El Salvador Army
  • Daneilla McCalmon, Permanent Secretary, Guyana Ministry of Public Security
  • Captain Emilio E Segura, Project of Amphibious Vehicles Recovery, Argentine Marine Corps
  • Commander Pablo von Unger Thauby, Project Manager for Marine Corps Integrated development, Programs, Research, Chilean Navy
  • Major Rodriguez Erik Humberto, Commander, Comando del Batallón de Movilidad de Infantería de Marina No.1, Colombian Marine Corps

As well as this, threats to national and public security are continuous. This has fuelled investments into new platforms and technologies for the defence and security forces. One such technology includes combat-ready armoured vehicles, which offer both protection and mobility to forces that are in a range of hostile, challenging environments. This is now more important than ever, as the region looks to disrupt and defeat sophisticated militarised criminal and insurgent groups.

This conference will make for an exceptionally informative and valuable event, by championing discussions between nations and industries, in order to fully understand the issues that shape the regions defence forces. For the full programme and registration details, please visit http://www.armouredvehicleslatinamerica.com, or email [email protected]
