The SpotterRF CSR monitors two infamous avalanche gullies along the Swiss Alps road leading to the renowned village. The unique 24/7 two-tier perimeter line system triggers automatic road closure at the mouth of the canyon when it detects a snow avalanche threatening motorists on the only road leading to Zermatt.

Local authorities receive prioritized notification. Live cameras installed along the road allow them to check on the situation immediately — even at night, as all cameras are equipped with infrared floodlights. If the avalanche has not reached the road, authorities can reopen it from their computers or smart phones within minutes.

Hamburg, Germany, March 9 - DERMALOG, the biometrics innovation leader, is providing its identification technology to make a successful contribution towards combating fraud in Nigeria. Recently, the West African country's government identified that more than 23,000 public service employees either did not exist with their recorded name or had been receiving their salary unlawfully.
The campaign against corruption and maladministration launched by the Nigerian Government under President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2015 has resulted in the removal of numerous jobs from public service payrolls.
Of the 312,000 public servants that were audited, 23,306 were found to have received their salary unlawfully or did not even exist. Some of them even received payments from several sources at the same time. 7% of the audited government personell were not existing or were double-paid.
These cases of fraud were identified with the help of the automatic biometric identification system (ABIS) of the Nigerian banks, supplied by the German company DERMALOG. A country-wide biometric system has been implemented for 23 Nigerian banks and for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2014 and 2015, identifying bank customers by means of fingerprints and face recognition before they open or access a bank account. Under this system, every customer receives an individual number (Bank Verification Number or "BVN"). More than 24 million bank customers have been registered until today - and their bank accounts are also secured by DERMALOG´s innovative biometrics.
Besides these achievements, the BVN system has now helped to find and eliminate the 23,306 non-existing public servants. This permits the country to achieve monthly savings of 10.5 million euros and is making a sustainable contribution to the positive development of the Nigerian state.

Charlotte, NC, March 3 - Duke Energy announced its third solar project to be built in 2016, with the 6-megawatt Woodleaf Solar Facility slated for Rowan County, N.C."We see 2016 shaping up to be active year for Duke Energy-owned solar projects," said Rob Caldwell, senior vice president, Distributed Energy Resources. "Our customers want us to actively pursue renewable energy, and we are delivering on that desire."Today, Duke Energy filed with the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) on a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) - needed for the plant to be built. CPCN's were filed earlier for projects in Davie and Union counties.
"We appreciate Duke Energy's continued investment in Rowan County with the Woodleaf project," said Greg Edds, chairman of the Rowan County Commissioners. "Duke Energy has made significant investments in the community to meet the energy needs of the region and we look forward to a continuing partnership with them in Rowan County."
The Woodleaf Solar Facility will be located near the intersection of Highway 801 and Old U.S. Highway 70 in the community of Woodleaf in Rowan County. It will occupy roughly 50 acres of land already owned by Duke Energy.
If approved by the NCUC, the project will begin construction in the second quarter of 2016, with completion targeted for the end of the year.
The project will be owned and operated by Duke Energy Carolinas and will help meet North Carolina's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard.
Duke Energy continues to invest heavily in solar energy in North Carolina as part of its effort to deliver increasingly clean energy to its customers. The company is about to complete 141 megawatts of projects announced in 2015 – in Bladen, Duplin, Onslow and Wilson counties.
For 2016, Duke Energy utilities have announced 81 megawatts of planned solar power – already more than 50 percent of what was done in 2015. This aggressive expansion by Duke Energy companies has led North Carolina to be ranked fourth nationally for overall installed solar.
Over the past eight years, Duke Energy, through its regulated and commercial businesses, has invested more than $4 billion in solar and wind across the country. The company plans to invest about $3 billion in renewable energy over the next five years.

It also leverages True Day Night imaging that filters out the Infra-Red for enhanced color images during day mode, yet provides all the advantages of a night vision camera in low light conditions down to 0.005 lux (B/W).
One of the chief concerns with 4K video is its large file sizes. The IKS-WB9518 integrates H.264 video compression, a technology that minimizes network strain with its efficient compression of video data. Multiple streams allow users to stream live video in 1080p HD on a standard monitor while recording it in 4K for later analysis. There is also a built-in microSD slot for edge recording to support cards with a capacity up to 64GB. Intelsat General and L-3 Communication Systems-West demonstrate automatic beam switching for unmanned aerial system on Intelsat EpicNG
McLean, VA, March 7 - Intelsat General Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intelsat S.A. (NYSE: I), operator of the world’s first Globalized Network powered by its leading satellite backbone, and L-3 Communication Systems-West (L-3 CS-West) announced today the successful demonstration of new automatic beam switching technology that enables Unmanned Airborne Systems (UAS) fitted with L-3 CS-West satellite communications packages to operate on Intelsat’s high-throughput satellite (HTS) platform, Intelsat EpicNG. This software upgrade was funded and developed through a partnership between Intelsat General and L-3 CS-West to ensure that the existing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) platforms can take advantage of the 3x–4x throughput improvement that Intelsat EpicNG enables. This demonstration was part of Intelsat’s ongoing ecosystem work validating the compatibility of existing hardware with Intelsat’s EpicNG high-throughput satellites.
This over-the-satellite demonstration was conducted on Intelsat’s Horizons-1 satellite using three separate bandwidth segments and a navigation simulator representing a UAS flying through three separate high-throughput spot beams on a single Intelsat EpicNG-class satellite.
Using an L-3 CS-West hub and terminal modems for the end-to-end test, engineers measured the performance of full-motion video and IP data between the UAS and the hub controller as the system automatically switched both frequency and polarization while the aircraft flew through the three separate beams.
The new Intelsat EpicNG satellites are designed to increase UAS data rate performance by 200 to 300 percent via their high-throughput spot beams and enable broadband performance to antennas with apertures smaller than 30 cm. This demonstration validated that the UAS could automatically switch between these beams without user intervention, thereby simplifying operations while fully leveraging this increased throughput.
“Through our collaboration with Intelsat, both airborne and ground users will be able to upgrade the software on existing L-3 wideband modems to provide automatic beam switching capabilities for service on high-throughput satellites like Intelsat’s EpicNG,” said Andy Ivers, president of L-3 Communication Systems-West. “These results mark an important milestone in providing our customers the ability to modernize their existing assets within today’s fiscally constrained defense budget environment.”
“This demonstration proves that modems using beam-switching technology will support UAS operations at very high data rates on high-throughput satellites,” said Skot Butler, vice president, Satellite Networks & Space Services at Intelsat General. “This capability is an important step in the evolution of satellite communications for these critical platforms. Intelsat’s EpicNG also provides inherent protection from signal jamming and greater throughput for full-motion video and other bandwidth-hungry payloads.”
Following this successful demonstration, Intelsat General and L-3 CS-West plan to conduct further tests with user platforms employing the recently launched Intelsat EpicNG IS-29 satellite.
