Plymouth, MA-based Avwatch, opens R&D center in Macedonia, OH
Plymouth, MA and Macedonia, OH, November 2 - Avwatch, Inc., a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with headquarters in Plymouth, MA, today announced the Grand Opening of its new, state-of-the-art Research & Development Center, located in Macedonia, Ohio. This new 4,000 square foot facility will balance consumer-center innovation with technology leadership.
The opening marks the completion of a two year project; the center will be dedicated to accelerating the deployment of mission critical technology to first responders across the United States and beyond.
According to Chris Kluckhuhn, Chief Executive Officer of Avwatch, Inc., the firm’s investment in the R&D Center represents Avwatch's strong and continuing commitment to delivering revolutionary networking solutions which surpass traditional systems to a client base that includes local, federal, and state agencies, as well as international markets. The facility allows Avwatch to broaden its innovative focus and create cutting edge technology, as part of the firm’s expansion plans.
Avwatch's overall mission is to provide customers with the networking capabilities to gather, disseminate, and then process tactical information with speed and efficiency. With this focus, Avwatch leverages the latest technologies to deliver tactical IP data networks with aerial Full Motion Video (FMV), Blue Force Tracking (BFT), and Voice over IP (VoIP) to responders on the ground, or operation centers anywhere.
Avwatch’s Ryan Kowalske will lead the efforts at the Ohio Research & Development Center. There are four employees at the facility presently.
As the firm officially celebrates the opening of its new facility, officials also note that the Avwatch R&D Center has already played a significant role in the company’s expansion. Within this last year, Avwatch R&D Center has not only completed and received the ISO: 9001 Certification, but also released three new products; the Mini Tracking Antenna System (MTAS), the High Operational Performance Repeater (HOPR), and the PONTIS (Latin meaning: bridge). All three products fill critical gaps in the mobile ad hoc networking solutions currently deployed.
The MTAS enables long range communication between mobile assets. When paired with a Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) radio, it provides an encrypted, digital data link between mobile assets, whether in the air, on land, or at sea, while stationary or on the move. The HOPR enables long range communications between mobile and static assets in austere, unfriendly Radio Frequency (RF) environments, including underground tunnels and subway systems. The PONTIS provides IP to Analog gateway capabilities enabling connection of up to four E&M Devices with a selection of other interface options.
“There are few areas in research and development as complex as tactical networking systems. We [Avwatch] pride ourselves on being customer-centric, delivering mission essential networking solutions to our end users. With the establishment of our state-of-the-art Research & Development Center, we will to continue to provide our clients with outstanding customer service while promoting an environment dedicated to continuous innovation and technological achievement,” says Ryan Kowalske Research & Developer at Avwatch.

The company’s unique airborne platform permits homeland security professionals the freedom to interact directly with aircraft, generate requested flight routes, specify data to be collected and precisely control the onboard camera sensors. Communications between the ground user and aircraft are internet-provided, allowing the user and aircraft to communicate in real time. This facilitates immediate aircraft tasking and retrieval of data and imagery updates from anywhere in the world, at any time.
The company was founded in 2008 and is comprised of nationally recognized Homeland Security experts who are well-versed in military, federal, state and local disaster response planning and response protocols. Avwatch technology has been used to assist in oil cleanup following the 2010 explosion on BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, where they provided high-quality streaming video to the US Coast Guard, BP and authorities to assist with oil spill cleanup. Avwatch provides homeland security professionals and corporations with low-cost solutions that improve interoperability, robustness, and situational awareness. The company also provides training for US Air Force Pilots prior to overseas deployment, and has been instrumental in rescues during extreme weather conditions, including hurricanes.
