Codebench, Inc., a provider of TWIC / HSPD-12 / FIPS-201 authentication and physical access control middleware, announced on Jan. 2 that it has released a new SDK called IDSync, the first solution of its kind to provide a standardized Web services interface for automated provisioning and de-provisioning of users and credentials into virtually any supported physical access control system (PACS).
Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Identity Management Systems (IDMS), and Card Managements Systems (CMS) developers will be able to create a single connector to IDSync and immediately offer compatibility with more than 25 different physical access control systems.
Leveraging its well-established list of PACS plug-ins, IDSync offers a solution for both commercial and government users by providing support for DESFire, proximity and other legacy credentials, as well as a full range of PIV, PIV-I and CIV credentials.
The real-time API enables the IDMS/CMS/HRIS system to assign privileges to individuals before registering them with the physical access control system. Because it deals with data only, IDSync can work with any type of identity management and credential issuance workflow.
“IDSync is a new approach to how agencies and corporations can interface with the data on their IDMS or CMS systems,” said Geri Castaldo, CEO of Codebench. “With IDSync, identity management system providers no longer have to write their own interface with the access control system. With a real-time connection, personnel and privilege changes in the IDMS are immediately reflected on their physical access control systems.”
IDSync provides the link between PIV and PIV-I identity software, such as Intercede's MyID and Entrust's IdentityGuard and the PACS. When combined with one of the PIVCheck high assurance reader solutions, IDSync can help federal agencies align their PACS infrastructure with the Federal Identity, Credential and Access Management (FICAM) roadmap.
The FICAM roadmap, developed by the Federal Chief Information Officers Council and the Federal Enterprise Architecture Committee, provides a framework and implementation guidance for federal agencies to implement their identity, credential and access management programs.
As a licensable option to the PIVCheck Software Suite, both PIV and non-PIV users can deploy IDSync. Codebench’s PIVCheck Software Suite provides a seamless transition to HSPD-12 or FIPS-201 compliance by leveraging a facility’s physical access control system for card validation, authentication and registration, says a news release issued by Codebench.
