G4S supports sector security at chemical summit

Showing its support for critical Department of Homeland Security activities, G4S is participating in the 2010 Chemical Sector Security Summit (CSSS) held in Baltimore, MD, on July 7-8.
Formerly known as G4S Wackenhut, the company is featuring its unique solution encompassing technology innovations and their proven security officers to make chemical and critical infrastructure facilities more secure. The show is an opportunity for all participants to share the latest information on chemical security, infrastructure protection and the impact of Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS).
“For G4S, security technology at chemical and critical infrastructure facilities is not a separate entity from the security guard force,” said Drew Levine, president, G4S Secure Solutions. “Security technology contributes as a force multiplier and productivity tool to make security manpower more efficient, while even the most advanced technology depends to some extent on the human element. We are the only company that combines both into a complete integrated solution for chemical and critical infrastructure applications,” he added.
As an associate member of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Associates (SOCMA), G4S is a corporate sponsor of the Summit and is operating two booths, one for G4S Secure Solutions and another for G4S NSSC.
The presence of G4S NSSC reflects the acquisition by G4S of Nuclear Security Services Corp., which offers risk management, design and engineering services for intrusion detection, access control and video surveillance systems, specifically for the critical infrastructure and other regulated industries.
“G4S is in a unique position to provide existing and new chemical sector customers a comprehensive security solution completely integrating manpower and technology, and customized to meet a customer’s specific needs,” Levine added. “Although there are many companies offering ‘solutions’ in the industry today -- no other single company delivers the whole package. That’s G4S innovation today.”
At the summit, G4S shared the company's vision to deliver a new category of integrated security solutions that combines manpower and technology. G4S has built on Wackenhut's success as a supplier of security manpower by acquiring several companies related to security technology, including NSSC. Other acquisitions include Touchcom, Inc., which delivers software for visitor management, work flow management, elevator management and facility concierge services; Adesta, a systems integrator that designs and installs sophisticated video surveillance, perimeter protection and related security systems; and AMAG Technology, which offers access control, visitor management, smart card and related software-driven applications.
Also contributing to the new vision of G4S are internally developed innovations such as the Secure Trax PLUS Management Software platform, whose release GSN: Government Security News reported on June 30. Secure Trax PLUS is a fully interactive software platform that connects G4S officers, the command center, and an enterprise's customized security business intelligence portal. The all-in-one software provides a range of customizable security solutions to detect, alert, dispatch, record and verify events in real-time. G4S' expanded range of services also includes security consulting, design and engineering; compliance and risk management, and facilities management.
G4S new company vision also includes a just constructed state-of-the-art remote video monitoring center in Burlington, MA. The remote monitoring center -- located about 17 miles northwest of Boston -- is a 5,000-square-foot facility that promotes efficiency by using video monitoring and analytics (intelligent video) to alert security personnel only if there is a problem at a customer's site that needs to be addressed, such as someone loitering in a parking lot after hours.
