Fri, 2008-12-12 01:23 PM
Contract - A high-definition surveillance system provided by Vancouver, BC-based Avigilon has been deployed in Canberra Stadium, located in Australia's capital city. The installation was an upgrade from an existing analog system.
The new Avigilon HD system includes 11 Avigilon cameras, ranging from four to 16 megapixels. Security officials manage the new system using Avigilon Control Center network video management software.
According to the company, the HD system also gives Canberra Stadium the capability for facial and license plate recognition, both in daylight and at night.
James Kiwi, events and operations manager for the Territory Venues and Events Enterprises Services division of the Australian Department of Territory and Municipal Services, professed his "total faith" that the Avigilon HD system has the capabilities "required to assist police with criminal investigations." Said Kiwi: 'Before, we simply could not guarantee this level of security."
Canberra Stadium has a 28,000-seat capacity. According to the company, with the new system in place, Canberra has "achieved significant cost-savings," because it takes 10 to 15 percent fewer personnel to do monitoring, as well as fewer cameras.
